(Minghui.org) A Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province resident was sentenced to prison for 3.5 years in October 2020 for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong, which has been going on in China since July 1999.
Ms. Tian Biqing, a 70-year-old retired auditor at a large state-owned enterprise, was harassed twice in 2019 by Yuandong Residential Community personnel. She went to these people on August 28, 2019 to clarify the facts about Falun Gong, only to be arrested by officers from the Tongxinling Police Station. Her home was ransacked. Her husband, who had just undergone surgery, was left without care.
While she was being held at the Futian Detention Center, the police left Ms. Tian to sleep on the floor. Her family frequented the local police station to seek her release, but the police rejected them and said they were planning to arrest more people involved in her case.
The Nanshan Procuratorate approved Ms. Tian’s arrest on October 3, 2019, and the Nanshan District Court sentenced her to a 3.5-year prison term and a 5,000 yuan fine on October 16, 2020.
Ms. Tian began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. She credits the practice for improving her health and changing her into a more peaceful and considerate person. She disciplines herself in following Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and has won several excellence awards at work.
Prior to her latest persecution, she was arrested on April 26, 2008 when studying the teachings of Falun Gong at a private home. She was held at the Luohu Detention Center and released on bail on May 4, 2008.
In 2015, Ms. Tian was harassed by residential community personnel after she filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party, for launching the persecution of Falun Gong. When she refused to sign the guarantee statement promising to renounce her faith, community staff members forced her family to sign on her behalf.
