(Minghui.org) After Mr. Shan Hanru finished serving 7.5 years for his faith in Falun Gong, he was devastated to learn that more than half of his pension has been withheld by the authorities since his imprisonment.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Shan, a Nantong City, Jiangsu Province resident, worked at a state-own enterprise for over 40 years before he retired. The long service time should enable him to receive 5,000 yuan of pension each month, but now he is only getting 2,100 yuan. He is demanding the authorities to immediately pay him the full pension.
Seven-year Prison Sentence
Mr. Shan was arrested on August 10, 2010, for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was briefly held at a local guesthouse that the police specifically rented to detain Falun Gong practitioners. The police also ransacked his home and confiscated his computer.
Mr. Shan was arrested again on June 7, 2012. The police scaled the fence and broke into his home. They confiscated his Falun Gong books, the photo of Falun Gong’s founder, Falun Gong informational materials, a printer, computer, and DVD burner.
While he was held at the Nantong Brainwashing Center, the police kept the handcuffs on him and didn’t allow him to sleep. They also beat him during the interrogation.
Mr. Shan was sentenced to 7.5 years after two court hearings in 2013.
At Wuxi Prison, the guards arranged felons to monitor him. The felons beat and verbally abused him at will. He was forced to sit on a small stool without moving all day long, which caused his buttocks to fester. In addition to the sitting torture, he was also deprived of restroom use and starved. These felons often threatened to torture him to death.
Mr. Shan filed a motion to reconsider his case to the High People’s Court in Jiangsu Province, but to no avail. He was released in December 2019.
