(Minghui.org) Three Falun Gong practitioners in Shanghai were arrested within ten days in April 2020 for raising awareness about the persecution of their faith. On March 30, 2021, they were sentenced to prison by two different courts.
Ms. Wang Shizhen, 69, was sentenced by the Fengxian District Court to one year with a 2,000-yuan fine.
Ms. Hu Fuying, 66, and Ms. Shi Xiaoling, 78, were sentenced by the Jing’an District Court to 14 and 18 months, respectively. They were also fined 2,000 and 5,000 yuan, respectively.
Ms. Wang Shizhen
Ms. Wang was arrested on April 15, 2020. The police lied to her that if she admitted to having talked to people about Falun Gong, they would release her. Ms. Wang believed the police and complied with their requests, only to be kept in custody and have her arrest approved.
While being held at Pudong Detention Center, Ms. Wang stayed in a cell shared with 40 inmates. She was closely monitored. The poor living conditions and mental pressure caused her health to quickly decline.
Ms. Wang was tried by the Fengxian District Court in November 2020 and convicted five months later.
Ms. Hu Fuying
Ms. Hu was arrested on April 16, 2020 and held at the Baoshan District Detention Center.
Prior to her latest sentencing, she served three years at the Shanghai Women’s Prison for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Shi Xiaoling
Ms. Shi was arrested on April 24, 2020 and held at the Baoshan District Detention Center.
Five months after her arrest, the police also seized her younger sister, Ms. Shi Ping, after suspecting her of submitting information about Ms. Shi Xiaoling’s arrest to the Minghui website. The younger Ms. Shi was also kept at the Baoshan District Detention Center and released on February 4, 2021.
Prior to Ms. Shi Xiaoling’s latest sentencing, she was persecuted at the Zhaobei District Brainwashing Center in 2000 for upholding her faith.
