(Minghui.org) A retired engineer in her 70s stood trial on August 12, 2021 for distributing informational materials about her faith in Falun Gong. The prosecutor accused her of having a stubborn attitude and recommended 3-5 years of prison.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Dong Yuying, of Ziyang City, Sichuan Province, was reported on October 12, 2020 by the security personnel of a kindergarten for placing two Falun Gong flyers in the basket of a motorcycle parked outside the school.
Han Lin and other officers of the Baitai Town Police Station located Ms. Dong’s home and deceived her into opening the door, by claiming that they were there to conduct a census.
Ms. Dong was kept at the police station for a day and transferred to the Anyue County Detention Center the next day. She began to suffer high blood pressure in the detention center and felt dizzy while walking.
The Yanjiang District Procuratorate approved her arrest on October 26. Ms. Dong refused to sign the document and demanded that the authorities dismiss her case.
On the same day, she was transferred to the Ziyang City Detention Center. Her blood pressure continued to rise, which caused much difficulty for her to maintain a normal life.
Due to her physical condition, she was released on bail on November 6. The police placed a surveillance camera at her home. The subdivision’s security guards were also assigned to monitor her. There were also surveillance cameras in the subdivision. Her daughter traveled from Shanghai to Sichuan and paid 40,000 yuan in bail for her.
The constant surveillance and the prosecution proceedings put Ms. Dong under tremendous pressure and strained both her physical and mental health. Her family is now very worried about her.
