(Minghui.org) Two Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province residents were recently sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Hong, 60, was sentenced to three years and six months with a 10,000-yuan fine by the Lianhu District Court. She was ordered to serve time from July 2, 2021 to December 31, 2024.
Ms. Dong Yuying, 66, was given three years and three months with a 6,000-yuan fine by the same court. She has been incarcerated since January 8, 2019 and is scheduled to be released on April 7, 2022.
Both practitioners were arrested on January 8, 2019 after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. Officers of the Jiangcun Police Station ransacked their homes at night and confiscated their Falun Gong books, materials, SD cards, and media players. The videos and audio files in the SD cards as well as the two practitioners’ previous detention and sentencing were also used as “evidence” against them.
Ms. Dong has been detained at the Lianhua District Detention Center since. Ms. Wang was released on bail due to her health condition.
Both practitioners appeared in Lianhu District Court in January 2020. Ms. Wang acted as her own lawyer and entered a not guilty plea. Ms. Dong was represented by a lawyer, who also entered a not guilty plea for her.
Ms. Wang was taken back into custody at Lianhua District Detention Center on July 2, 2021. The judge announced their verdicts two days later. She has appealed with the Xi’an City Intermediate Court.
