(Minghui.org) Two women in Bozhou City, Anhui Province, were sentenced in November 2021 for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Suzhen, an employee of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, was arrested at home on September 6, 2020, after being deceived by the police into opening her door. Two other practitioners, Ms. Yu Chengying and her sister Ms. Yu Suying, who happened to be visiting Ms. Liu, were also arrested. Ms. Liu’s Falun Gong books, computer, and printer were confiscated.
While Ms. Yu Chengying was released on bail the next day, her sister and Ms. Liu were held in custody in Bozhou Detention Center. Their arrests were approved on September 14, 2020.
The police claimed that they arrested Ms. Liu after she was reported in June 2020 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. It’s not clear why the police waited three months to arrest her. None of the alleged witnesses appeared in court to undergo cross-examination.
The Qiaocheng District Court sentenced Ms. Liu to four and a half years and Ms. Yu to one year in November 2021. Ms. Liu appealed with the intermediate court and is still awaiting the verdict. Ms. Yu has been released after serving her term.
Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Liu was arrested several times in 2002 and held in brainwashing centers. She was arrested in 2015 and was detained for 15 days in nearby Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, for talking to people about Falun Gong.
She was arrested again on May 28, 2017, while talking to people at a train station in Hefei City, the capital of Anhui. She was held at the Qiaocheng District Detention Center and later sentenced to one and a half years by the Qiaocheng District Court. She was released on November 27, 2018.
