(Minghui.org) A 56-year-old Huaihua City, Hunan Province, woman was beaten three times by a man on the street between March and July 2022, while she was trying to raise awareness about the persecution of her faith in Falun Gong.

The man claimed to be the secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, an extralegal agency tasked with overseeing the persecution after the Chinese communist regime launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999. When Ms. Yang Linying reported the incident to the police, they threatened to arrest her instead.

Below is Ms. Yang’s own account.

I handed out a booklet to a man near Hongxingqiao Plaza on March 27, 2022. As soon as he realized that the booklet was about Falun Gong, he attacked me frantically. He pulled my hair, pushed me to the ground, stepped on my head, and twisted my arms behind my back.

Passersby tried to persuade him not to step on my head or hurt me. He didn’t take his feet off my head until a few minutes later. He then called the police, ordering them to arrest me. He said he was the secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. The police came shortly after and took me to the Hutian Police Station, where I was held for a day.

When I passed by Xiangzhou Plaza at around 2 p.m. on May 18, the same man followed me. He pulled the strap of my purse from behind and then began to slap me in the face. My mouth was bleeding.

He pushed me to the ground again and held my arms behind my back. Then he stomped hard on my back. It happened that a brick was under my chest. I almost suffocated as he kept stomping on me. He didn’t stop until half an hour later. He cursed at me, saying that I invited the torture myself. He again called the police. When they arrived, I couldn’t get up due to the injury to my chest.

The third time I saw him was on June 11, when I was passing by the Taiping Bridge. The man was sitting with another man on the sidewalk, close to where he beat me the last time. When he saw me, he gritted his teeth and was about to hit me. I didn’t talk to him and left. He didn’t chase me this time.

I saw this man again on July 12, when I passed by Yingfeng Road. He was sitting in front of a motorcycle repair store, watching two people playing games. As soon as he saw me, he slowly walked to me and said, “Give me the thing and I won’t beat you.”

Before I responded, he grabbed my bag and looked inside for Falun Gong materials. “I would be fined dozens of yuan if you put up a poster,” he said and then slapped me in the face when I tried to argue with him.

I later reported the incident to the Hutian Police Station. The police ordered me to leave and threatened to arrest me again.
