(Minghui.org) An ailing woman in Shulan City, Jilin Province, was recently sentenced to two years for her faith in Falun Gong. The judge had tried her case in her home three months earlier.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Officers broke into Ms. Sun Shufen’s home on March 1, 2022. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and other informational materials before ordering her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong.
Officer Zhao Yan deceived Ms. Sun into going to the police station with them, promising to let her go home that day. Ms. Sun went with them, only to be arrested and taken to the local detention center. Due to her high blood pressure, the detention center refused to admit her. She was released the next day.
The police went to Ms. Sun’s home again on July 4 and ordered her to sign her case document. She refused to comply, but her family was forced to sign it on her behalf at the Shulan City Court two days later.
Two officers showed up at Ms. Sun’s home on July 14 and took her photo. Shortly after they left, her family received a call from the court, summoning Ms. Sun for the next afternoon. Her family responded that she was dealing with a medical condition and her hands and legs were numb. The caller said they could pick her up at home.
The court called her again at noon the next day. Her husband insisted that she not go to court due to her health. Not long after, the police showed up and asked how she was doing. They told her husband that at her physical exam in early July, they’d discovered a tumor in her abdomen. Her husband was surprised that the police hadn’t notified him of the physical exam, let alone the tumor.
The Shulan City Court scheduled a hearing for Ms. Sun on September 6. Because she was too weak to leave home, the judge went to her place to hold the hearing. He recently announced that she was sentenced to two years with a 2,000-yuan fine. It’s not clear if she has yet been taken into custody to serve her time.
