(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman in Shanghai was recently sentenced to 3.5 years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. He Pinqin was arrested on September 8, 2019, for sending information to people’s cell phones in a public plaza. She was released on bail on October 8 after 30 days in the Fengxian District Detention Center.
The police took Ms. He back into custody on August 27, 2020 and have since denied her family visits, citing the pandemic as an excuse. Her family is very worried about her health condition. After her arrest, the authorities also installed four cameras outside of her home to monitor whether other Falun Gong practitioners would come to visit her.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. He has been targeted for her faith. Since the onset of the persecution, she has been arrested at least ten other times and given one year of forced labor and four years in prison. Details of her past persecution can be found in the following related report.
