(Minghui.org) A man in Changling County, Jilin Province, was sentenced to five years for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Jia Jinghe appealed the verdict but was turned down. He has been transferred from the Songyuan City Detention Center to the Jilin Province Prison. Due to information censorship in China, more details of his sentencing aren’t available.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Prior to his latest sentencing, Mr. Jia served another seven years, also for his faith.
Mr. Jia was arrested at home on July 9, 2007. The police confiscated his valuables worth more than 10,000 yuan, including a computer, a printer, Falun Gong informational materials, blank DVDs, and copy paper. He was held in a local detention center and denied family visits. His wife did odd jobs and relied on 300 yuan monthly income to support herself and their six-year-old son.
The local court secretly sentenced Mr. Jia to seven years. His family appealed the verdict for him, but the intermediate court ruled to uphold his original sentence.
Mr. Jia was first taken to the Zhenlai Forced Labor Camp and then transferred to the Siping Prison and later Gongzhuling Prison.
At the Siping Prison, he and other Falun Gong practitioners were forced to work without pay, including making 1,300 pieces of cellphone battery components every day, 100 pieces more than the quota required of regular inmates. The guards beat the practitioners if they couldn’t finish the work. Mr. Jia, Mr. Liu Xiaoyong, Mr. Shi Guoliang, Mr. Xu Hongwei and Mr. Pang Shikun were all exhausted from the work and they developed fluid accumulation in their chests. Mr. Pang later died due to the persecution.
