(Minghui.org) Three Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, residents have been detained for three months after being arrested for practicing Falun Gong. One of them is facing prosecution after her arrest has been approved.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Yurong, a 60-year-old former teacher, went to the home of another practitioner, Ms. Kang, on the evening of November 27, 2021, to ask for her help to find a job. She didn’t know that the police had already arrested Ms. Kang in the morning and were staying there to arrest other practitioners who went to visit her.
A total of 11 practitioners, including Ms. Liu, Ms. Jin Xiaomei, and Ms. Chen Wenxue, 80, were arrested on the same day. While the other practitioners were released on bail and ordered to write statements to renounce Falun Gong, Ms. Liu, Ms. Jin, and Ms. Chen were interrogated at the police station and then taken to the detention center.
Ms. Liu’s family frequented the police station and demanded her release. They said that as she was still recovering from a stroke in 2013 while serving a previous six-year term for practicing Falun Gong, so they are very worried about her well-being and whether she would be tortured again in the detention center. The police ignored their request.
The police also accused Ms. Liu of delivering Falun Gong materials to Ms. Kang, despite knowing that she went there for job hunting, as the former teacher had her 14 years of service wiped out due to her prison term and resulted in no pension benefits. Now in her 60s, she has to make a living doing odd jobs such as working as an aide to the elderly.
Zeng Qiang, a prosecutor at Linghai City Procuratorate, informed Ms. Liu’s lawyer on January 24, 2022, that there was no way for them to release her, but they may consider a lighter sentence against her. Ma Liang, the president of Linghai City Procuratorate, instructed Zeng to charge her with “attempting to commit a crime.”
Li Lei and Liu Changjie of the Taihe District Domestic Security Office, who were involved in arresting Ms. Liu and submitting her case to the procuratorate, have been actively participating in the persecution for many years. Almost all the practitioners in the district have been targeted for their faith and many were forced to move away.
