(Minghui.org) Having barely survived six years of ruthless torture, a Qixia City, Shandong Province, woman in her 60s is facing prosecution again for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Lin Jianping before the persecution began
Latest Arrest
Ms. Lin Jianping spoke to a police officer outside of the Qixia City Police Department on February 6, 2022, trying to clarify the facts about the Tiananmen immolation hoax the communist regime fabricated to demonize Falun Gong.
She was arrested and taken to the Zhuangyuan Police Station.
In a basement room in the station, Yan Zhigao of the Domestic Security Office interrogated her. She did not respond.
“We are recording. You don’t even dare to tell us your name. How can you claim you are practicing Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance [the three principles of Falun Gong]?” Yan demanded.
After the police found her ID in her bag, they took her to another room.
“Because you are promoting a cult, we are questioning you according to the law,” the officer recording the interrogation said.
Ms. Lin asked him, “You police are the law enforcement agency, right?”
The officer pointed to his police uniform and said, “Yes, we are when we are in uniform.”
Ms. Lin reminded him, “Wearing a police uniform doesn’t mean you are doing the job justly. You said you are questioning me according to the law. What law is that? If you can show me the law, I will answer your question.”
She stood her ground when the officer told her she could see a copy of the law when they’d finished questioning her. She said, “I have to know on what legal basis you are holding me here. After that, I will consider whether I should answer your question.”
The officer didn’t reply.
“There are plenty of such laws,” Yan interjected. He looked at his cellphone and said, “In 1997…”
Ms. Lin cut him off and remarked, “The persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999. Back in 1997, you could still see Falun Gong practitioners doing the exercises out in public all over the country. My brothers, you have all been deceived by the lies of the communist regime,” she said to Yan and the other officer.
“Don’t call me ‘brother.’ I’m a member of the Chinese Communist Party,” Yan said.
“This is for your own benefit,” said Ms. Lin. “You can look online. Falun Gong was never on the cult list issued by the Ministry of Public Security. On March 1, 2011, the Chinese publication bureau even lifted the ban on Falun Gong books. Everything about Falun Gong is completely legal.
“You should do everything in accordance with the law. If you can’t present the legal basis, you are violating the law yourselves.”
“How did the court sentence you to six years? On what legal grounds?” Yan asked her.
Ms. Lin explained, “Xi Zhongxun, the father of the current communist regime leader Xi Jinpin, was imprisoned or was monitored for 16 years. Why? Both Liu Shaoqi (the former chairman of the Party) and Peng Dehuai (the former defense minister) were imprisoned during the Cultural Revolution. On what legal grounds?
“Falun Gong is a Buddha school practice for self-improvement. You have all been deceived by the regime regarding what Falun Gong really is. Just look at the Tiananmen self-immolation hoax. The little girl Liu Siying could sing during the TV interview just four days after a tracheotomy. How is that possible? As for the other ‘immolator’ Wang Jindong, his face and clothes were burned, but his hair was fine and the Sprite bottle he used to hold the gasoline remained intact. Why?”
“Don’t try to reason with us. We won’t listen,” Yan said.
“If you don’t follow the law or reason,” she asked, “then what do you follow? Now there are more and more disasters in China. I believe it’s related to society’s moral decline, especially the persecution of innocent Falun Gong practitioners, who merely want to be good by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It’s Heaven’s will to eliminate the Chinese Communist Party. You can go to Guizhou Province and look at the famous boulder engraved with the words ‘Chinese Communist Party Eliminated.’ It has been verified by many experts that they occurred naturally.”
“Have you seen it yourself?” another officer shouted at her.
“I haven’t, but I know about it.”
“You don’t go to see it yourself, yet you want us to spend money to see it?”
“What good has Falun Gong done for you that you are so obsessed with it?” the officer who was recording the interrogation asked.
Ms. Lin replied, “Falun Gong gave me a new life. I had a difficult delivery when my daughter was born and ended up with complications. I tried many medications but nothing helped. Only one month after I started to practice Falun Gong, I completely recovered. I was in three major accidents. The cars and my motorcycles were severely damaged, but I was completely uninjured. I believe good and evil will be rewarded accordingly. I truly don’t want to see you implicated for taking part in the persecution.”
By then, the officer had passed the interrogation record to Ms. Lin. It said, “No comment,” but the recording officer was still typing on the computer. Ms. Lin was worried he might try to fabricate her interrogation record, so she went over to see what he was typing. Another officer stopped her and threatened to handcuff her when she tried to further clarify the facts about Falun Gong.
Just then, the phone started to ring. One officer complained, “Why are there are so many riots and fights tonight?”
Ms. Lin said, “If they all learn Falun Gong and follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person, you wouldn’t have so much trouble. You could all go home and enjoy time with your family.”
“That’s true,” another officer blurted out.
Moments later, the police called Ms. Lin’s husband and told him to come to the police station to sign the interrogation record. He signed the document and Ms. Lin was released on bail.
Back home, Ms. Lin asked her husband what he’d signed. He said he didn’t look at it closely but saw that it said she was cooperative during the interrogation. “The police were trying to help you. They said as long as you cooperated with them, they would let you go.”
“I didn’t cooperate with them on anything. It’s a trap.”
Ms. Lin then learned that while she was in the police station, officers searched her home and confiscated over 40 of her Falun Gong books, several speakers, memory cards, cellphones, and a computer.
Two days later, officer Yan knocked on her door, but Ms. Lin refused to let him in.
“We are summoning you according to the law,” Yan said.
“What law? You’ve violated the law twice already—by illegally detaining me and by searching my home. I’m not going to let you violate the law again. Unless you can show me the legal basis for what you are doing, I won’t cooperate.”
Thwarted, Yan threatened to find a locksmith to open her door but didn’t.
The police did arrest Ms. Lin later on. When she was denied admission to the local detention center due to her health, she was put under house arrest for six months. The police later submitted her case to the district police department to pursue a prison sentence.
Past Persecution
Prior to her latest ordeal, Ms. Lin was previously arrested on September 26, 2004. She was first given three years of forced labor and then three years in prison.
She was once handcuffed to a heating pipe for seven days in the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. The guards tightened the handcuffs until her hands turned dark purple. She passed out several times due to the pain, yet the guards accused her of faking it. When she started a hunger strike later on to protest the torture, the guards force-fed her. They left the feeding tube in her nose for a long time to increase her suffering.
After she was later taken to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison, the guards pulled out handfuls of her hair, locked her in solitary confinement, and injected her with unknown drugs. She was also subjected to many other brutal torture methods, including suffocation and beating. In order to humiliate her, a female guard once stripped her down to her underwear and forced her to lay on the cold concrete floor in the presence of a male guard.
While Ms. Lin was incarcerated, her 80-year-old mother-in-law once knelt down to beg the police to release her. Her husband and daughter endured many sleepless nights.
Worrying about her day and night, Ms. Lin’s mother fell ill and passed away. Before her death, she was terrified at the sound of police sirens passing by her home. Ms. Lin’s mother-in-law also passed away from depression-related illnesses.
Who Is Ms. Lin Jianping?
Ms. Lin took good care of her parents-in-law when they were still alive. Her husband has an older brother, who had a strained relationship with their mother and refused to care for her in her old age. When she was hospitalized, Ms. Lin took very good care of her and the patient in the next bed thought she was her own daughter.
Ms. Lin also cared for her bedridden father-in-law, including cutting his hair, feeding him, and washing him. She bought him expensive seafood that she never bought for herself and fed him carefully.
When her father-in-law later moved to a senior center, she often went to visit him and brought him plenty of snacks and fruit. When the senior center’s nurse told her that other residents sometimes stole food from her father-in-law, she didn’t get angry, she just bought more food to share with the other seven residents in her father-in-law’s room.
Once her father-in-law fell in the restroom in the middle of the night and hurt his head. Ms. Lin insisted on going to check on him, while her husband wanted to wait until dawn. Her 90-year-old father-in-law was moved to tears when she showed up on her own.
In addition to her own family, she never hesitated to lend a helping hand to strangers.
She once saw an elderly man in ragged clothes sitting outside of the bus station. She spoke to him and found out that his own family had chased him out of the house. He wanted to go to a relative’s home to seek help but couldn’t afford the bus fare.
She bought him the bus ticket and gave him some extra money to buy food. The man was so touched that he knelt down in front of many people to express his gratitude.
She once saw another elderly man wandering down the street carrying a bowl and spoon. Realizing something was not right, she asked him where he was going. He replied that he was going to the cafeteria for lunch. It turned out he had dementia and was lost. He had walked nearly six miles from the senior center where he lived. She offered him a ride on her motorcycle and took him back.
There was a homeless person in his 50s in her community who had been wandering the streets for decades. He’d lost both parents when he was a child. She was very sympathetic and bought him clothes and tried to find him a job. When no one was willing to offer him a job, she bought him a second-hand tricycle so he could collect recyclables and sell them to earn some money. When his health declined and he could no longer work, she took him to government agencies to seek low-income subsidies for him. On the way to one agency, two young men saw her with the man on her motorcycle and both were shocked that someone would still care about the homeless man. Once Ms. Lin and the man got to the agency, one male staffer said, “You’re the only one who still cares about him all these years.” A woman there commented, “I bet you must believe in something to be so kind.” Ms. Lin replied, “I believe in the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”
She once found a valuable item worth several thousand yuan on the street. She spent much effort and found the owner. A local resident who knew her said to the owner, “You are lucky that it was she who found it. Anyone else and you would never have seen it again.”
A school girl missed her bus home and was weeping at the bus stop. Ms. Lin saw her and drove her all the way home. Her parents thanked her profusely.
Surviving Three Car Accidents
Among the numerous benefits Ms. Lin has derived from practicing Falun Gong, the three car accidents she survived unscathed are among the most memorable.
On March 18, 2012, Ms. Lin was hit by a drunk driver. The driver’s face turned pale after coming to his senses. He offered her compensation, but she kindly refused. When the driver offered to give her a ride home, he realized the front bumper had been completely crushed and there was a long scratch on the body of the car. Ms. Lin, however, wasn’t hurt.
The second accident occurred on March 17, 2019, when Ms. Lin was riding a motorcycle out to the countryside to visit a relative. She was rear-ended by a big truck. The truck ran over her motorcycle while she was still on it. Most people at the scene were stunned when she climbed out from under the motorcycle, uninjured. She let the young driver go after he backed his truck up and got her motorcycle out. Everything was fine except for the little trunk on the back of motorcycle that had been knocked off.
Ms. Lin was buying a new trunk after visiting her relative and mentioned the accident she’d been in earlier that day. Another customer suddenly interjected, “Was that you in that truck and motorcycle accident? I actually drove past the scene right after the accident happened. We all said the person on the motorcycle must be dead. How in the world did you get out from under there and are totally fine?” He was absolutely amazed at Ms. Lin’s miraculous survival.
Nine months later, on the evening of December 31, 2019, she was hit on her motorcycle by a young motorcyclist driving the wrong way. She didn’t fault him and said she understood he must be in a hurry for some emergency. She let him go without asking for any compensation. When Ms. Lin took her motorcycle in for repair the next day, the mechanic was surprised to learn she wasn’t hurt at all even though her motorcycle was very badly damaged.
In all three accidents, Ms. Lin told the drivers she practiced Falun Gong and would be fine. She didn’t ask for a penny in compensation from any of the drivers, who all expressed their admiration for Falun Dafa.
