(Minghui.org) Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in Hongshan District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province launched a Zero-out Campaign aimed to force all local Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith in 2021.
The organizations that participated in the new wave of persecution are Hongshan District Communist Party Committee, Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC), and the 610 Office. Many local practitioners were arrested, had their homes ransacked, sent to detention centers, prisons, and forced labor camps during the past two years.
The following four CCP members in Hongshan District lead and actively participated in the recent persecution.
- Xiao Min (肖敏), District Standing CCP Committee member, Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee- Peng Daiping (彭代平), head of the 610 Office, District CCP Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the PLAC- Ding Fan (定帆), District CCP Committee member, deputy Secretary of the PLAC- Zhang Jian (张健), Deputy Director of Hongshan District and 610 Office director- Lin Wenshu (林文书), Secretary of Hongshan District CCP Committee- Yan Zhongxing (严中兴), Deputy Secretary of Hongshan District CCP Committee- Ji Hongjie (纪宏杰), Director of Hongshan District Police Department, agent of the 610 Office- Xu Jinhua (许锦华), Deputy CCP Secretary of Hongshan District Police Department, member of the District PLAC- Yang Xiongcai (杨雄才), Deputy Director of Hongshan District Police Department
The following are select persecution cases that took place since 2021.
Man in His 70s Imprisoned and Loses Pension
Mr. Zhou Xikun returned home in October 2019 after serving three years in prison for practicing Falun Gong. He soon learned that his pension had been suspended for ten months. To this day, his pension has not been reinstated.
After three years of torture and intensive forced labor in prison, the 78-year-old man experiences frequent chest pain. He is weak and has to lean against a wall, a table or a window sill while walking. The loss of his pension brought even more difficulty and distress to his daily life.
Mr. Zhou, who retired from Wuhan University in 2003, was arrested by the police and security personnel of the university at his home in Wuhan on the evening of December 20, 2016. He was tried on September 13 and sentenced to three years on October 31, 2017.
In November 2018, Director Wang Xinhua and Deputy Director Liao Xiaoming of the Computing Center, Department of Informatics at Wuhan University, went to Mr. Zhou’s home and informed his family of their decision to suspend his pension since December. They also threatened to completely wipe out his years of service.
Practitioner Arrested Again 13 Days After Previous Detention
Ms. Zhou Yijun was detained for 15 days, from January 18 to February 3, 2022. Two weeks after she was released, Liu Junjie, a police officer from her community, arrested her on February 16, 2022. Her current situation is unknown.
Practitioner Taken to Brainwashing Center
An official from Jinquan Community in Hongshan District called Mr. Liang Yi on February 15, 2022 and ordered him to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. Mr. Hong declined to do so. The official reported him to the higher ups. The Hongshan District PLAC ordered the police to arrest Mr. Liang on February 17 and put him in to a brainwashing center in an unknown location.
Police Harassment
An officer and a staff member from Mafangshan Police Station called Mr. Ren in Hongshan District on the morning of October 1, 2021. They asked for his specific address and whether he served in the military before. When Mr. Ren condemned them for harassing him, they told him it was an order from Hongshan District Police Department. After Mr. Ren told them that practicing Falun Gong is legal, they threatened him that the phone call was recorded, and dared him to file a complaint against them.
