Proclamation from County Executive Jan H. Gardner of Frederick County
The proclamation reads, “Falun Dafa was first introduced to Maryland in 1996, and since then, many residents in the state have learned and benefited from the peaceful and effective practice. There are also volunteer-run practice sites in the parks, as well as free classes online. Falun Dafa practitioners also participate in parades, health expos, and other cultural events to enrich local communities; and
“many Falun Dafa practitioners who arrived in the United States as refugees fleeing persecution in China, are grateful for the freedom they enjoy here; and
“marking World Falun Dafa and the 30th anniversary of Falun Dafa helps to affirm our commitment to the universal values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance; human rights and freedom of conscience.”
Background: What Is Falun Dafa?
Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries and regions worldwide. Millions of people who have embraced the teachings—which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance—and learned the five exercises have experienced improved health and well-being.
