(Minghui.org) A Qingyang City, Gansu Province resident lost the ability to walk on her own and became incapacitated, after enduring years of prison torture for upholding her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Qiang Weixiu is set to be released on July 4, 2022. Her family is urging the international community to pay attention to her case.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Qiang, a 54-year-old former agricultural machinery bureau manager, has been repeatedly targeted for practicing Falun Gong in the past two decades. She was arrested at least five times, which resulted in three labor camps and a prison term. Unable to bear the pressure, her husband divorced her in October 2000. Her workplace also fired her in 2017.
Ms. Qiang was arrested on July 4, 2018, when she went to the township government to demand the reinstatement of her job. She was sentenced to four years in March 2019. Her appeal was also rejected by the Qingyang City Intermediate Court a year later.
After she was taken to the Gansu Province Women’s Prison in January 2021, she was monitored by the inmates around the clock. They once held her down on the ground and beat her. She was also denied restroom use and not allowed to take showers. The torture rendered her unable to walk on her own and she almost lost the ability to take care of herself.
