(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old woman in Qujing City, Yunnan Province was recently sentenced to one year for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Dai Yuzhen gave out QR code cards with links to websites about Falun Gong outside of Qujing City No. 2 Middle School on February 15, 2022. One student told his parents about it upon returning home. The parents then reported Ms. Dai to the police, which resulted in her arrest the next day. Her home was also ransacked. She was first taken to the Jianning Police Station and then held at the Wangjiashan Detention Center.
Officer Gong Yanjiang of the Domestic Security Office, who has participated in the persecution for years, attempted to coerce Ms. Dai into reporting on other practitioners by threatening her with a heavy prison sentence. Officer Wen, the deputy director of the Domestic Security Office, said to her, “You practitioners must have worked in a group; otherwise how could your case get published on Minghui.org? We must sentence you quickly.”
Four months later, in mid-June 2022, the Qujing City Intermediate Court handed down a one-year sentence against Ms. Dai.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Dai has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong, which she credits for curing her many ailments after she took up the practice in 1998.
Ms. Dai was first arrested on January 30, 2000, while doing Falun Gong exercises at a public plaza. She was held at the Qujing City Detention Center until May that year and then given two years of forced labor. Although she was allowed to serve time at home, she was ordered to report to the security department at her workplace every week.
Ms. Dai was arrested again in July 2005. Her home was ransacked. She was given 2.5 years of forced labor a month later. She was subjected to brainwashing and torture at the Dabanqiao Women’s Forced Labor Camp in Kunming City.
Ms. Dai’s next arrest was in 2009 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. She clarified the facts about Falun Gong to the police and was released.
She was arrested again on July 18, 2017 and detained for 15 days.
A group of officers broke into her home on June 11, 2021. Upon entering, they said to her, “Turn in your stuff.” Before she could respond, they began to search around and took away her computer.
Ms. Dai was taken to the Jianning Police Station for interrogation. “Did you ask the students to quit the Communist Party at the No. 6 Middle School on June 8? You were reported. We’ve looked up the surveillance footage. We know it’s you who did it.” the police said to her.
The police gave her an administrative punishment notice, but she refused to sign it. She went home with her family at 11 p.m.
