(Minghui.org) A native of Nanyang City, Henan Province working in Beijing was sentenced to two year in December 2021 for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhang Chengguo, a 32-year-old father with two children aged three and four, is the sole breadwinner of his family. He was arrested on June 3, 2021 by officer Wu Gang and others from the Huilongguan Police Station for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The police handcuffed him behind his back and confiscated his two computers, one printer, cellphone and other Falun Gong related materials.
Mr. Zhang has been held at the Changping District Detention Center since and is denied visitation and correspondence with his family.
The Changping District Court sentenced Mr. Zhang to two years with a 3,000-yuan fine in December 2021. The judge blocked his lawyer and family members from attending his trial, citing the pandemic as an excuse.
Mr. Zhang appealed with the Beijing No.1 Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict.
