(Minghui.org) A Huludao City, Liaoning Province, resident was admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on June 23, 2022, to serve time for her faith in Falun Gong. According to Ms. Zhang Fengzhi’s family, she was sentenced to two years.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline based on Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. It has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang, 65, was arrested on October 20, 2021, for talking to people about Falun Gong and distributing calendars with information about Falun Gong. She was held at the Huludao Detention Center before being transferred to the prison.
Over the past 23 years, Ms. Zhang has been repeatedly targeted for not renouncing her faith. Right after the persecution began in 1999, she was detained for a month by the township government and fined 500 yuan.
She went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in 2000 and was arrested. The police detained her for 30 days and extorted 400 yuan from her. They handcuffed her to a heating pipe and deprived her of sleep. They laughed at her, saying, “Don’t you practice Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance? It’s time for you to forbear.”
Over the next few months, Ms. Zhang was arrested six times and forced to pay 2,000 yuan. She was also given one year in a forced labor camp. When she was released from Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in 2001, the police extorted another 500 yuan from her and confiscated her Falun Gong books.
Ms. Zhang was arrested yet again in September 2002 and held in the Xingcheng Brainwashing Center for 17 days. She was ordered to watch propaganda videos smearing Falun Gong and write statements to renounce Falun Gong.
Since 2003, the local authorities have often harassed Ms. Zhang at home, sometimes scaling her fence to break in in the middle of the night.
