(Minghui.org) A Zibo City, Shandong Province resident was sentenced to eight years in prison for practicing Falun Gong, two years after he finished serving ten years for the same reason.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline with the tenets of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Wang Zhongshi, nearly 70, was arrested on November 11, 2020 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He was sentenced to eight years in the Shandong Province Prison and fined 40,000 yuan in June 2021.
Because Mr. Wang refused to hand copy the prison rules, the guards slapped him in the face and forced him to stand for three days. After he was transferred to the 11th ward, the guards often tortured him in the hallway and also forced him to sleep there.
Earlier Persecution
Since the onset of the persecution in 1999, Mr. Wang and his wife, Ms. Li Xiuyun, have been repeatedly targeted for upholding their faith.
Ms. Li was arrested at home on April 25, 2007. All of their valuables, including motorcycle, TV and fridge, were seized by the police. She was also beaten in the local detention center. She was later sentenced to five years and transferred to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison in Jinan City.
For the next two years, Mr. Wang was forced to live away from home to avoid the persecution. The police put him on the wanted list and put up posters around town, including outside of his mother-in-law’s home, to look for him.
During the time, Mr. Wang lived a homeless life and often stayed in the wild, drinking water from the reservoir and eating any food he may find.
During the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the authorities followed his daughter, in an attempt to arrest him. Over 100 plainclothes officers were dispatched to hunt him.
Mr. Wang was arrested on the evening of May 15, 2009 and taken to the Fujia Detention Center. He was later sentenced to ten years and transferred to the Shandong Province Prison in January 2010.
When his daughter brought her son to visit Mr. Wang on April 2, 2013, Mr. Wang told the little boy that “Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” Because of that, the guards forcibly ended the meeting and told his daughter that they wouldn’t let her visit him again.
Between August 2014 and 2017, Mr. Wang was held in solitary confinement and watched by inmates around the clock.
The guards forcibly injected him with unknown drugs on August 18, 2017. When he resisted, they beat him.
After Mr. Wang was released on May 16, 2019, the cement factory he worked at said they had treated him as a dead person and had wiped out all of his past service, leaving him with no pension benefits. He was ordered to make a lump sum of 300,000 yuan contribution to his pension account in order to accrue benefits again.
