(Minghui.org) A Yingcheng City, Hubei Province resident in his 70s was arrested and taken to a brainwashing center on June 30, 2022 for his faith in Falun Gong. He held a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was released the next day.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Since early June 2022, the authorities have been repeatedly harassing Mr. Cheng Xianggou. They called and twice went to his home, on June 24 and 27, respectively, attempting to take him to the brainwashing center, but he firmly refused.
On June 30, Zhao, the chief of Silipeng Police Station, Lei Xiaotao, the director of Silipeng Street Committee, and Chen Junhong, the deputy director of local 610 Office, broke into Mr. Cheng’s home and forced him to come out of the apartment building.
Without showing their IDs or an arrest warrant, Zhao put Mr. Cheng in a chokehold to prevent him from talking. Others followed suit and beat Mr. Cheng.
Mr. Cheng struggled with all his might, but was still arrested minutes later and carried into the police car. His neck and multiple places on his body became swollen and bruised. Several other places were bleeding. Many local residents witnessed the arrest.
Mr. Cheng was then taken to the Tian’e Brainwashing Center, leaving his incapacitated wife at home alone.
A married couple, Liang Shoulong, 59, and his wife Liao Zhiwei, 57, have been working for the authorities since 2005 in transforming Falun Gong practitioners. Each of them receives 200 yuan every day.
Mr. Cheng held a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was released the next day.
Since Sui Chunlong took office earlier this year as the Deputy Secretary of Xiaogan Party Committee and Secretary of Political and Legal Affairs Committee, he has allocated more funding to local brainwashing centers, which has resulted in the arrests of dozens of Falun Gong practitioners in the nearby cities and counties under the jurisdiction of Xiaogan.
