(Minghui.org) A Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province resident was taken to the Sihui Prison in late 2021, after his appeal against a five-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong was rejected.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zeng Jiageng
Mr. Zeng Jiageng, 80, was arrested on July 10, 2019, after the police accused him of using his phone as a hot spot to spread information about Falun Gong. He experienced life-threatening high blood pressure and a heart condition while in custody, yet the authorities rejected his bail release request. The prolonged detention caused him to develop more symptoms, including hearing and vision loss. He also struggled with insomnia and couldn’t keep his balance while walking.
After two hearings, on August 17 and September 23, 2020, respectively, the judge sentenced him to five years with a 10,000-yuan fine on July 28, 2021.
Mr. Zeng appealed with the Guangzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict in October 2021. He was taken to the Sihui Prison in December 2021.
The Sihui Prison is notorious for its use of force and violence in its attempt to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith. Those who held fast to their faith were tortured beyond the limits of human endurance. They were deprived of sleep for long periods of time, denied access to the restroom, prohibited from talking, forced to sit on a small stool, and beaten.
Mr. Jiang Hanquan
While Mr. Jiang Hanquan, a Puning City resident, was detained at the Sihui Prison to serve a 3.5-year term, he was subjected to all kinds of torture. He also witnessed how another practitioner, Mr. Liu Beiping, suffered bleeding in his brain from the abuse and became paralyzed. About a year after Mr. Jiang was released, he passed away in early 2019. He was 64.
