(Minghui.org) Eight months after an engaged couple in Shanghai were arrested for their shared faith in Falun Gong, the man has become incapacitated and the woman has a lump on her chest.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. He Binggang, a 46-year-old former software engineer, and Ms. Zhang Yibo, a 45-year-old former business manager, were arrested on October 9, 2021, and held in the Changning District Detention Center. They were indicted on June 10, 2022, and now face trial by the Fengxian District Court, one of the courts in Shanghai designated to handle Falun Gong cases.
Due to the strict pandemic lockdown in Shanghai, their families weren’t allowed to deliver clothes to them or make cash deposits so that they could buy daily necessities in the detention center.
Mr. He is suffering from declining health. His neck issue and partial paralysis, which resulted from torture during a previous detention, worsened. He has now completely lost the ability to walk and has become bedridden. He has trouble falling asleep at night and suffers from constant dizziness, headache, and incontinence.
Ms. Zhang also developed a medical condition, with an abnormal lump on her chest that has become an inch wide. The authorities refused to provide any medical treatment for her.
