I’m a Falun Dafa practitioner in Danang, Vietnam. Today I would like to tell a story of how Dafa changed the life of a woman who scavenges plastic bottles for a living.
One late evening, I saw an older lady wandering in a construction site to collect plastic bottles, paper or metal scraps. I gave her some discarded plastic items. She thanked me and helped me clean up some trash around my place. I stopped to inquire after her.
She said that she is 87 years old this year, but because of her poverty, she has to go pick up bottles to scrounge out a living.
I asked why at this age, she was not taken care of by her children, but had to go out and pick up bottles? She said that over the past 11 years, her family had suffered many misfortunes: her husband was already very old and bedridden; her 51-year-old son had been sick for decades, so he couldn’t work; her daughter-in-law left after seeing her newborn baby with Down syndrome, leaving the child to her to look after.
So the main source of income of the family of four is from this 87-year-old woman riding an old bicycle collecting bottles and other recyclables every day. On average, she can earn 40,000 - 60,000 VND a day (equivalent to 1.6 - 2.5 USD). Her only wish is to earn enough money to feed her family.
I introduced Falun Dafa to her, then gave her a lotus flower. I also told her to recite the nine words,“Falun Dafa is good, Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance) is good.”
Upon receiving the lotus flower, she was silent for a while and then her eyes twinkled. She said, “A few weeks before, someone told me that before August, I would get some kind of fortune. The lotus flower you give me may be that fortune. Thank you.”
She told me she would take the lotus flower home, wait to have a nice clean bath, and then recite them.
A week later I came back to the construction site and came upon her again. As I waved to say hi, she hurried to pull me over and thanked me profusely. She said she took the lotus flower home and gave it to her son. She told him to recite the nine words day and night. Her son followed suit and now he is well again. He has returned to work after decades of tormenting abdominal pain. She was so happy that she thanked me many times.
Hearing her great results, I was moved and very happy. An unfortunate life has been illuminated by the compassionate light of Dafa.
