(Minghui.org) A woman in her 70s was sentenced to 2.5 years without a trial for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Xu Fenglan, of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, was arrested on January 29, 2021. Her Falun Gong books, informational materials, printer, and computer were confiscated. After over ten hours of interrogation, she was released on bail the same day.
The police later submitted Ms. Xu’s case to the Xihu District Procuratorate. Without having a trial, the Xihu District Court informed Ms. Xu in early September 2022 that she has been sentenced to 2.5 years with a 50,000-yuan fine. It’s not clear whether she has been taken into custody at the time of writing.
In addition to Ms. Xu, two other practitioners in their 70s in Nanchang have also been sentenced earlier this year. Ms. Mei Yufeng, 76, was given two years in early 2022 and Ms. Xu Guizhen, 71, was sentenced to three years on February 8. Both have been taken to the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison.
