(Minghui.org) A married couple in Dongying City, Shandong Province, were recently sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Fan Zhiyong and Ms. Sun Yuxia were arrested at home on May 5, 2022. Their three computers, a printer, two portable drives, and three cell phones that they used to run their home-based daycare business were confiscated. The police interrogated them and attempted to force them to admit that they promoted Falun Gong to the children when they stayed at their home.
The police submitted the couple’s case to the Hekou District Procuratorate on September 23. The prosecutor later transferred their case to the Dongying District Procuratorate, which then indicted them and moved their case to the Dongying District Court. The judge recently sentenced Mr. Fan to five years with a 20,000-yuan fine and Ms. Sun to four and a half years with a 16,000-yuan fine.
Prior to their latest sentencing, Mr. Fan was sentenced to six years and Ms. Sun to five years probation following their arrests in July 2013 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong.
