(Minghui.org) A Changchun City, Jilin Province resident in his 70s was recently secretly sentenced to 2.5 years for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Yang Chunlin was arrested on August 13, 2022 and his home was ransacked. He was held at the Weizigou Detention Center. Requests by his lawyer and family to visit him have been denied by the detention center.
Mr. Yang’s wife, also in her 70s, has been bedridden for over two years after suffering a stroke. Mr. Yang’s arrest dealt her a heavy blow, and her health has been deteriorating over the past several months.
Not until one month ago did Mr. Yang’s family finally confirm that his case had been moved to the Chaoyang District Court. They kept calling the number of the presiding judge, Wang Yanan, for a whole month and eventually got to talk to him on the phone. He told them that Mr. Yang had been sentenced to 2.5 years, but he refused to provide any details about the sentencing. The authorities also kept Mr. Yang’s family in the dark regarding his current detention location.
