(Minghui.org) Two Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province residents were recently sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Tang Zengye, 55, was arrested at home at 4 a.m. during a mass arrest of over 100 practitioners on July 12, 2022. Her Falun Gong books were confiscated. She held a hunger strike after being taken to the Daqing No. 2 Detention Center. The guards force-fed her concentrated saline water. Despite her serious condition, the guards refused to release Ms. Tang. Even after she resumed eating, she couldn’t keep food down and always vomited after she ate.
Ms. Li Dongju, in her 60s, was arrested at 6 a.m. on the same day. Her Falun Gong books and informational materials were confiscated. The police submitted her case to the procuratorate on August 12.
Both women appeared in court on December 4, 2022, with Ms. Tang attending while sitting in a wheelchair. The judge announced their verdicts on December 30. Ms. Tang was given 2.5 years and Ms. Li was sentenced to 5.5 years. Both have appealed the verdicts.
Ms. Tang previously worked as an accountant at the Daqing Oil Production No. 3 Plant. She has been arrested multiple times for upholding her faith, and subjected to relentless torture in her previous detentions.
