(Minghui.org) The families of two Shangzhi City, Heilongjiang Province, residents recently confirmed that they have been secretly sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline also known as Falun Dafa that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Both Ms. Liu Yumei, 61, and Ms. Zhang Fenglian, 53, were arrested on June 10, 2021.
Ms. Liu’s laptop, printer, Falun Gong books, and 2,000 yuan in cash were confiscated. Her family recently learned from insiders that she was given six years, but it is not clear when she was convicted. She was badly tortured in custody and only has one tooth left.
Ms. Zhang’s family was also kept in the dark regarding the status of her case, and they too only found out from an insider that she was sentenced to three and a half years in November 2021.
Ms. Zhang started to practice Falun Gong in 2000. She stopped being short-tempered and became peaceful and tolerant. Her herniated lumbar disc and other ailments all disappeared.
Ms. Zhang was previously arrested on May 13, 2013, for writing “Falun Dafa is good” in a public place. The police interrogated her from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Without any paperwork, she was given 15 days of detention. She was under tremendous pressure and had a difficult time eating and sleeping. The police kept harassing her family, stressing them out.
Ms. Liu suffered from severe diabetes. Two of her brothers died of the disease, one at 36 and the other at 37. Shortly after she took up Falun Gong, her condition disappeared.
For telling people her story, she was detained five times, the longest for three years. Unable to bear the pressure, her husband divorced her.
