(Minghui.org) Ms. Luo Meilin from Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, has been detained since she was arrested on July 20, 2023 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

The arresting officers from the Chaisang District Domestic Security Office took Ms. Luo to the Jiujiang City Detention Center, where she is still held.

The police promised to release her earlier if she wrote statements to renounce and denounce Falun Gong. As no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong, she refused to comply. She was threatened with a prison sentence.

Ms. Luo, a food vendor in her 50s, and her husband moved from Hebei Province to Jiangxi Province more than a decade ago. While she was still living in Hebei, she was given a forced labor term for practicing Falun Gong. Her latest arrest devastated her husband, who felt helpless and didn’t know how to seek justice for her.

Ms. Luo’s sister and brother cannot understand why their sibling is being persecuted for following Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person. They recalled how Ms. Luo, the youngest of three siblings, took meticulous care of their bedridden mother in her final years, when it is the custom in China for the sons and/or older siblings to care for their ailing parents. They knew that it was Falun Gong that gave Ms. Luo a big heart and the strength to do the lion’s share of caring for their mother.
