(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Shunhua, 83, from Maoming City, Guangdong Province was transferred to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison on September 12, 2023 to serve time for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Shunhua was sentenced to one year and fined 3,000 yuan on February 28, 2023. She had been out on bail following her arrest on October 23, 2020, but was taken back into custody after her sentencing hearing on February 28, 2023.
She filed an appeal while being held at the Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center. Judges Zhang Chi, Li Jinjie and Liang Dongqing of the Maoming City Intermediate Court ruled on June 5, 2023, to uphold her prison sentence, which began on February 28, 2023.
Ms. Li’s high blood pressure and heart condition relapsed while she was held at the detention center. At one point she almost fainted. The guards then moved her to a special ward and arranged another detained practitioner, 56-year-old Ms. Wu Youqing, who just recovered from a serious condition after being on a hunger strike, to take care of her.
As soon as Ms. Li’s condition stabilized, however, the court ordered her to be sent to prison on September 12, 2023.
