(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old man in Huludao City, Liaoning Province, has been held in solitary confinement for over two months while serving time in the Shenyang City First Prison for practicing Falun Gong.
Mr. Liu Quanwang, a former employee of Xiaolinghe Coal Mine, was arrested on April 7, 2022, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He was released the next day but was taken back into custody on August 19 and admitted to the Huludao City Detention Center.
Judge Zhang Liang of the Lianshan District Court sentenced Mr. Liu to five years in late December 2022. He appealed to the Huludao City Intermediate Court. Judges Zhang Pengcheng, Liu Danhong, and Zhu Dan ruled to uphold the original verdict in early 2023.
Mr. Liu was first transferred from the Huludao City Detention Center to Panjin Prison, before being admitted to the first ward of the Shenyang City First Prison. Because he refused to do the unpaid forced labor, he has been held in solitary confinement for over two months. It’s not clear whether he is being subjected to other forms of torture.
This isn’t the first time that Mr. Liu has been targeted for his faith since the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. He previously served three labor camp terms and a prison term, totaling 11 years. During his incarceration, the labor camp and prison guards used all kinds of methods to torture him, including beatings, force-feedings, electric shocks, and sleep deprivation.
