(Minghui.org) Among the over 20 Falun Gong practitioners in Xinmin City, Liaoning Province arrested on July 26, 2023, five of them are still detained and two of the five are facing prosecution.
Mr. Liu Bo, Mr. Cao Yang, Ms. Zhao Hongli, Mr. Xing Jianpu, and Ms. Liu Qifen were arrested together with at least 15 other practitioners by officers of the Xinmin City Domestic Security Office and several local police stations, including Fahaniu, Erhongqi, and Xinnongcun.
All practitioners had their homes ransacked and some had their private cars, cell phones, cash, and bank cards confiscated. Most of the practitioners also reported being beaten and interrogated by the police. One practitioner’s teeth were knocked out.
Prior to Mr. Cao’s latest arrest, the former art school teacher had already served two prison terms totaling 15 years. He is now facing prosecution again after the Gaotaizi Police Station submitted his case to the Liaozhong District Procuratorate.
Mr. Liu Bo is also facing prosecution after the Fahaniu Police Station submitted his case to the Xinmin City Procuratorate.
When Mr. Liu’s family and lawyer went to the Xinmin City Procuratorate to inquire about his case, prosecutor Liu Tiebing denied their request to dismiss his case, saying, “Nothing is extreme no matter what decision we make regarding a Falun Gong case.” He also challenged the family to “sue him in Beijing” if they had objections.
Given the family and lawyer’s persistent efforts, they were allowed to review Mr. Liu’s case file hours later.
In addition to the practitioners targeted in the group arrest, another practitioner in Xinmin City, Ms. Cheng Qingxia, 58, was arrested on July 19 by Daliu Police Station. While she was released around 10 p.m. that day, she was arrested again the next day and taken to a detention center in Shenyang City, which has jurisdiction over Xinmin. It’s reported that she has been sentenced to eight months. But details about her case remain unclear.
