(Minghui.org) I began practicing Falun Dafa under my family’s guidance when I was a child. I’m forever grateful that I grew up understanding the purpose of life and was not affected by the ever-declining morality in today’s China.
My family’s finances were tight. I remember when I was 14, my mother used a three-wheeler to move my things from home to my school dormitory. I was so embarrassed that I blamed her for not calling a taxi. I then told myself that I must make a lot of money in the future so that I wouldn’t lose face like that ever again.
I’ve been reading Zhuan Falun since elementary school. Although I could not understand much at the time, I enjoyed reading the stories mentioned in the book. I understood that harboring jealousy was bad.
I was never jealous of others having better food or clothing than me, and I told myself, “Master has said, when you see others doing well, you should be happy for them and not jealous.”
As I grew up reading more Dafa books, I came to understand that a person’s wealth is predestined and brought by one’s blessings; it is not something one can ask for.
My mindset about money changed, and I was content to live an ordinary life. When I occasionally drove a car, I would remind myself not to be zealous or show off.
I visited my hometown after graduating from college. On the return trip, my grandfather drove me to the train station in an electric three-wheeler, and I remember enjoying taking pictures of the sunset with my sister. I had let go of my attachment to saving face.
One winter, my husband was on his way home from a supermarket and found a smartphone on the ground. He was afraid that people would step on it since it was covered by snow. The phone was locked, and there was no way to find out the phone’s information, so I charged it and waited for the owner to call. The owner’s family soon called, and I returned the phone.
My husband and I are both Falun Dafa practitioners and conduct ourselves according to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and we felt returning something to its owner was quite normal and needed no second thought. But in today’s China, where culture and morality have been destroyed by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), if someone loses their cell phone, they would not normally get it back without offering a reward.
I was once in a supermarket with a coworker. The checkout line was long, and I was waiting my turn. After a while my coworker joined me, despite there being people behind me. My heart skipped a beat because, as a practitioner, I should not allow her to “cut the line.” I told my coworker to stay at my place in line, and I went to the end of the line. I was glad that I upheld my values as a Dafa practitioner.
I currently work in an accounting job. At my previous workplace, whenever a holiday was approaching, the management would ask me to send money and gift cards to our tax officers. I did not believe it was good for the recipients because they had to give away a portion of their virtue to get something for free.
I expressed that I would not support such a practice at the interview for my current job, and it just so happened that the interviewer agreed with me. I have now worked here for a few years, and my management has never asked me to give gifts to the tax officers. My manager and I frequently discussed how to improve business, and we never did anything to falsify the accounting books.
The CCP’s agents illegally arrested and detained me for 15 days last year because of my belief in Falun Dafa. The tax officers learned about my situation when they noticed my tax form was past due. When I delivered the form and met them, they expressed great concern and asked if I had suffered any bad treatment from detention.
They had a good impression of me, but they couldn’t understand why someone so young would believe in Falun Dafa. I told them that Falun Dafa requires practitioners to conduct themselves in accordance with Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. I also clarified the truth to them, explaining that the so-called “self-immolation in Tiananmen Square” was propaganda to falsely accuse practitioners. They understood the truth, but felt helpless about the CCP abusing its power. My company did not offer them any gifts, but they did not treat us any differently.
My management did not know that I practice Falun Dafa until recently. I told my manager that I could resign if management was concerned. He said it was a good thing to have faith, because the faithful have a higher moral standard. It turned out he had learned about Falun Dafa and knew there was nothing wrong with it. He told me to continue working with a peace of mind.
Falun Dafa has been spread in the world for more than thirty years, and words can’t express enough my gratitude to Master for the blessings I’ve received!
