(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Wenzhi, a 76-year-old resident of Huludao City, Liaoning Province, was arrested in April 2002 and given three years of forced labor for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
At the now-defunct Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, she was deprived of sleep, handcuffed and shackled to a pillar in a room and forced to relieve herself in the pants. To mask the smell, the guard wrapped her with plastic sheets and tied up her hands and feet. After weeks of torture, she suffered a mental breakdown and couldn’t recognize her family. She had intense pain in her back that rendered her unable to walk normally. Now she still relies on a walker to get around and has become hunchbacked. Her mental state still hasn’t fully recovered either.
In early December 2023, Ms. Liu filed a criminal complaint against Su Jing, the former director of the Masanjia Second Women’s Forced Labor Camp for causing the physical and mental sufferings in her.
Below is Ms. Liu’s criminal complaint. It was submitted to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Justice, the Huludao City Procuratorate, the Shenyang City Procuratorate, the Huludao City Police Department, the Shenyang City Police Department, and the Longgang District Police Station in Huludao City. Shenyang is the capital city of Liaoning Province.
Criminal Complaint
Plaintiff: Liu Wenzhi, female, Han Nationality, Address: No. 114, Group 1, Niuyingzi Village, Beigang Street, Longgang District, Huludao City, Liaoning Province
Defendant: Su Jing, former director of the Masanjia Second Women’s Forced Labor Camp
Complaints
I, a farmer, suffered a mental breakdown after being tortured at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. I was unable to walk on my own. I also became hunchbacked. I now file the criminal complaint against Su Jing, seeking to hold her accountable for intentionally causing injury to me, abusing detainees, abusing power, and depriving me of my freedom of religious belief. I demand that she compensate me for my financial losses and mental suffering.
Facts and Reasons
My name is Liu Wenzhi. I’m 76 this year. I live in the Niuyingzi Village, Beigang Street, Longgang District, Huludao City, Liaoning Province. On April 14, 2002, Wang Ce, the head of Zhaolitouzishao Police Station, led a few officers to break into my home and confiscated my Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. I went to the police station to seek the return of my books the next day. Instead of returning my books, Wang arrested me and held me in a lockup for 15 days, before transferring me to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp to serve a three-year term.
The Masanjia Forced Labor Camp was like a hell on earth. Because I refused to renounce Falun Gong, the guards ordered the inmates to torture me in the following ways:
- They beat and tortured me in a narrow, dark corner.- Several inmates poured cold water on me at the same time.- They didn’t allow me to sleep for 23 days, but took turns verbally abusing and humiliating me.- After 23 days, they cuffed my hands to a pillar and shackled me. My wrists and ankles broke and bled.- To force me to renounce Falun Gong, they escalated the torture by denying my restroom use and forcing me to relieve myself in the pants. Unhappy with the smell, they wrapped me with plastic sheets and tied me up. They also beat me on the head with a wood stick.- One day, they stripped me naked and threatened to videotape me for a TV program. I struggled with all my might and didn’t let them videotape me.
After only weeks of torture, I suffered excruciating pain in my back and legs. I couldn’t straighten my back or walk. My health was completely ruined.
To protest the persecution, I started a hunger strike. After seven days, they began to force feed me. I tried to resist, but soon lost my strength when several people held me and force fed me. After that, I began to fall into a delirious state and was extremely weak.
Not wanting me to die in the labor camp, a guard called the Zhaolitouzishao Police Station, asking the police to take me home. The police didn’t come or inform my family of my situation. A few days later, the labor camp called my family and ordered them to pick me up immediately. My family travelled overnight and arrived at the labor camp. I was on the verge of death and no longer recognized them. Four people carried me into a car and I was taken back home.
Before releasing me, guards Wang and Dong extorted 497 yuan from my family. They hand-wrote the receipt: 3 yuan for hospital registration fee, 150 yuan for car expense, 198 yuan for examination fee, 134 yuan for force feeding, and 12 yuan for bread and rice and congee.
Upon returning home, I lost my mind and went insane. I refused to wear clothes or shoes. Without shying away from others, I relieved myself anywhere in the house, including on my bed, in the living room or in the yard. I ate my stool and drank my urine. I beat anyone who tried to stop me and spit the stool onto their faces. I sometimes ran away from home, even in the middle of the night. My family took me to a hospital for treatment. I was discharged after 17 days. But only a few days later, my mental state relapsed. My family took me back to the hospital and I stayed there for about two months. The total medical cost was around 20,000 yuan.
Despite my condition, the persecution continued. On October 14, 2003, more than ten officers from the Zhaolitouzishao Police Station and Beigang Township 610 Office broke into my home. They said they were taking me to the Xingcheng Brainwashing Center per an order from higher-ups. By then, my condition had recovered a bit. I refused to go and tried to reason with them. As I became nervous and emotional, my mental illness flared up again.
My family took out my medical record and said to the officers, “She was driven insane by the persecution. We spent 20,000 yuan on her treatment. Now you want to arrest her again. She couldn’t stand any distress now. Who will be responsible for her if she had a full-blown illness again?”
The police responded, “If she is ill again, it’s up to you to treat her. After she is well, we will still arrest her. We don’t care about anything. We only care about how to persecute Falun Gong.”
My family was adamant to not allow the police to arrest me. The standoff lasted into the evening. Finally one officer mumbled to his colleagues, “Didn’t the labor camp say they never beat people? It’s obvious that she became like this due to the torture. She is already like that. It’s not a good idea to take her away, as it might cause some negative impact.” They then left.
For a regular farm woman like me, only because I upheld my faith in “Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance,” I was subjected to such brutal torture. Is there any justice? Although my mental state has improved, I still couldn’t straighten my back and I rely on a walker to get around.
My story is only one of the many torture cases of Falun Gong practitioners at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. I heard that Su Jing, the head of Masanjia Second Women’s Forced Labor Camp, receive 50,000 yuan reward for her contribution in transforming Falun Gong practitioners. Her hands are full of Falun Gong practitioners’ blood.
Because I haven’t fully recovered, I could only recall part of my persecution experience and share what my family had told me.
