(Minghui.org) Four women in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, became paralyzed and unable to care for themselves as a result of the persecution of Falun Gong. They were in good health before the persecution started in 1999. Because they refused to renounce their faith, they were arrested, tortured, harassed, and deprived of their pension.
A teacher suffered a brain hemorrhage and has been paralyzed for the past 20 years because she was tortured in a forced labor camp and injected with unknown drugs. An 87-year-old retired teacher’s pension has been withheld since 2021. Due to the financial stress plus the relentless police harassment, she suffered a stroke and became paralyzed. A 79-year-old women was sentenced to seven years in prison and her pension was reduced. The frequent police visits and harassment took a toll on her health and she became bedridden. Another 79-year-old was forced to shut down her booming business due to the persecution. She had to serve a three-year sentence at home and was frequently harassed by the police. She became paralyzed and had to rely on her family for her daily needs.
The following is a brief summary of their suffering.
Teacher Paralyzed for the Past 20 Years
Ms. Wang Aiyun was arrested twice and tortured for a year in a forced labor camp. As a result she had a brain hemorrhage and was paralyzed for the past 20 years. She relied on her daughter-in-law to take care of her.
Xiongyue Police Department officers often went to Ms. Wang’s home to harass her, ransack her home, and threaten her family. “Since the persecution started in 1999, we have never had a quiet day at home. They harassed us and watched us around the clock. The police often came to ransack my house,” said Ms. Wang.
She couldn’t sleep well at night and her heart rate went up when the police siren sounded. Her husband suffered a heart attack once when the police barged in to ransack their home.
Officers from the Yingkou and Xiongyue Police Departments arrested Ms. Wang in 1999 and held her in the Gaizhou City Detention Center for 15 days.
Four Bayuquan Police Department officers scaled the fence and broke into Ms. Wang’s home in August 2003. They arrested her and put her in a detention center, where she was tortured until she could not eat and fainted twice. After she came to the second time, she was in tremendous physical pain. A guard said to her, “Our orders from above say that we should throw you out if you died.”
Ten days later the police admitted her to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City for a year. She was injected with an unknown drug. Two months later, she suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since.
87-year-old Retired Teacher Suffers Stroke Following Repeated Harassment
Ms. Han Guiyun in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, became healthy after she took up Falun Gong. The 87-year-old retired teacher was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan in June 2021 by the Zhanqian District Court. Because she had hypertension, the detention center and prison authorities refused to admit her, so she served the sentence outside of prison under surveillance.
In July 2021, a month after her conviction, her pension was suspended. She has not received any funds since. So far, she’s lost a total of 128,800 yuan of her pension (4,600 yuan per month).
The police and local officials frequently harassed her at home, putting tremendous mental pressure on her. She suffered a stroke on March 21, 2022, and was hospitalized for over three weeks. Because she’d lost her pension, she couldn’t afford the prolonged medical treatment and was discharged.
Her son stayed with and took care of her. She is now bedridden and unable to eat solid food after most of her teeth fell out over the past year due to the mental distress. She also can’t recognize people, has trouble expressing herself clearly, and struggles with poor hearing.
Elderly Woman Becomes Bedridden After Non-stop Harassment and Surveillance
A 79-year-old woman in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to seven years in prison by a judge in the Laobian District Court on May 27, 2015. Ms. Zhang Fuzhen served her sentence outside of prison under surveillance because of her poor health. The authorities also reduced her pension.
While serving the sentence at home, Ms. Zhang was under tremendous mental and physical stress. Her blood pressure shot up, and she wobbled when she walked. Yingkou City Justice Bureau personnel ordered her to have physical exams, which she had to pay for out of her own pocket. The prison threatened to put her back in prison once her health improved. They frequently went to her home to check on her and harass her family. They made her children sign unknown documents and warned her not to leave her home. They called her many times to see if she was home.
The harassment combined with the physical and financial stress took a toll on her health. She became bedridden, and her children had to feed her liquid food and help her use the bathroom. Her family could no longer push her around in a wheelchair when her health declined ever further and she could no longer sit up on her own.
After she had served her seven-year term that ended on August 24, 2021, despite her condition, Jinniushan Police Station officers still went to her home to photograph her in March 2023 during the 20th Chinese Communist Party Congress.
During the seven years of of her sentence, her pension did not increase to 3,000 yuan per month like it should have and stayed at 1,900 yuan per month. This caused her much financial loss over the past seven years as well as in the future.
Woman Loses Her Business and Mobility As a Result of Persecution
A woman went from being able to work and support her family of four generations to losing her business and her ability to walk because she refused to renounce her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Liu Yan, 79, used to repair watches. She earned enough to support her entire family and live well. During a city-wide relocation effort, the authorities targeted her because she practiced Falun Gong and put her in a place where she could no longer run a business.
During two major political meetings in 2017, captain Jiang Mingfu of the Xishi District Domestic Security in Yingkou City ordered the police to harass and arrest her.
Another time the police arrested her and put her in a brainwashing center. She was subsequently sentenced to three years. Having lost her business, the prison sentence made things worse. She collapsed physically and became paralyzed. Her husband now has to take care of her daily needs.
