(Minghui.org) As a Falun Gong practitioner in China, I often tell people what the practice is and how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been suppressing it without any legal basis. Many people I talked to felt the same way and they shared with me their stories of the ruthless regime.
“The CCP Has Never Treated People as Human Beings”
One time I came across a retired railroad worker in his 80s. Despite his advanced age, his mind was sharp and both his vision and hearing were great. We chatted about how the CCP has persecuted innocent people in numerous political campaigns, from the Land Reform Movement (1949–1953, targeting landlords) to the Tiananmen Square Massacre (1989, suppressing democracy). He was sympathetic towards Falun Gong practitioners who have been persecuted for their faith since July 1999.
“The CCP has never treated people as human beings,” he said. “It wants us to please the regime and does not allow us to show any dissatisfaction.” He was glad to renounce membership in the CCP organizations.
“The CCP Owes Me Two Lives”
Bin is a retired employee in his 70s from a public institution and he quit the CCP organizations without hesitation. He said, “The CCP owes me two lives.”
The first life was Bin’s father, who was a Deputy Party Security of a township before the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). After finding out his family used to be land owners, the authorities launched endless attacks on him, including physical abuse and humiliation. He took his own life at age 37. Bin’s mother and five siblings were then forced to move to the countryside, where they were discriminated at and starved. The children were also banned from school.
Another life was Bin's second baby. The fetus was already full term, but under the CCP’s one-child policy, Bin’s wife was forced to have a 37th week abortion. Bin hoped that one day the CCP would be held accountable for its sins.
“The CCP Just Wants You to Shut up”
Dong used to be a successful businessman and a lay Buddhist. He knew that just having money was not enough in China, so he bribed his way into becoming a director at a government agency. During his tenure, he did do things beneficial for the local residents. Since he had money, power, and kindness, he did not yield to bureaucratic officials and no one could earn gray income from the government projects he managed. But this triggered resentment from other officials. They colluded with each other and framed him. In the end, Dong had to resign and went back to being a businessman.
He said, “There are all kinds of problems right now, but the CCP just wants you to shut up. It does not care about anything but itself.”
“If We Follow the Law, We Will Lose Our Jobs”
Song is a law school student and his father is an office director of a city intermediate court. He once interned in the court. After he was done, he told me, “Few judges these days are following the facts or laws.”
There was an intentional injury case with solid facts and evidences against the defendant. The first instance court, however, ruled in favor of the defendant, and the court that Song was interning at was reviewing the case. Some judges gave different recommendations, but none of these suggestions followed the law.
Song chimed in, “Based on these facts, I think the judgment should be corrected in this way.” Everyone else went quiet. After a while, a judge in his 50s came to him patting him on his shoulder and said, “If we follow the law, we will lose our jobs.”
This story from Song explained why there are so many unjust and wrongful cases in China. Judges and the justice system have bent the rules for their own benefits. It is especially the case regarding the persecution of Falun Gong, where prosecutors and judges intentionally indict and sentence Falun Gong practitioners to protect their own political careers.
“These Officials Need to Learn from Falun Gong”
One day, I ran into a retired business executive. He was worried about the chaos in Chinese society and agreed to to quit the CCP organizations. He said nearly all CCP officials are corrupt and they are ruining the country.
I explained that Falun Gong practitioners follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and gave him some examples of how myself and other practitioners became more considerate of others and never took things that did not belong to us.
“This is great,” the man said. “These officials need to learn from Falun Gong to be good people.”
