(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Sumei developed high blood pressure and had a relapse of her heart condition and depression following her latest arrest for her faith in Falun Gong. Her family has applied to have her released on bail and is still waiting to receive a decision at the time of this writing.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Li, of Baoding City, Hebei Province, was arrested on the evening of September 26, 2022 while working as an aide caring for an incapacitated elderly person. Over ten other practitioners were also arrested and had their homes ransacked around the same time. The police monitored the practitioners’ daily lives and phone calls before the operation.

While most of the practitioners were soon released on bail, Ms. Li remained in custody and had her arrest approved by the Jingxiu District Procuratorate.

When Ms. Li’s brother-in-law and daughter went to the police station to demand her release, the police threatened that her case was very significant, given the amount of Falun Gong related items found at her home.

Ms. Li’s family recently learned that she was under tremendous mental pressure at the Baoding City Detention Center. She experienced high blood pressure and also had a relapse of her heart condition, along with severe depression, both of which had disappeared after she took up Falun Gong.

Her family submitted an urgent request to release her for medical treatment. Her lawyer also turned in his legal opinion, demanding the dismissal of her case. The prosecutor recently returned her case to the police for insufficient evidence. Yet she is still being held at the detention center at the time of this writing.
