(Minghui.org) The company president invited me to be a project manager a few years ago. The company had invested 600 million yuan to make production equipment, but there were design flaws, so the equipment did not operate properly. The market was also down, causing lots of pressure and difficulties for the company.
The company decided to invest an additional 100 million yuan to develop a new product that could boost the viability of the 600 million that had already been invested. The president asked me to be in charge. The work included research and development, design, purchasing, fabrication, and operation.
I needed to deal with all kinds of people, including foreign consultants, shop workers, construction workers, equipment suppliers, engineers, and researchers. In spite of the busy schedule, whenever I had a chance, I told them about Falun Dafa.
An elderly specialist is a former Soviet Union Ph.D. and is very knowledgeable. He likes to read things on his iPad when he is not working. I recommended Zhuan Falun, and told him that practicing Falun Dafa benefited me both physically and mentally, and it also disclosed the deeper principles of human life and everything in the universe. He agreed to read it.
I downloaded the English version of Zhuan Falun and the Freegate anti-censorship software for him. A few days later, he showed me Zhuan Falun in his mother language on his iPad and told me that there was a Falun Dafa practice site in his hometown.
I got to know the bus driver who drove us to and from work and gave him a set of truth-clarification materials. He read them with us. A shop director was shaken after reading the materials and asked for Falun Dafa books. I gave him a copy of Zhuan Falun. His wife was a Christian and asked why he did not simply follow the teachings of Jesus, instead of taking such a big risk by believing in Dafa. He told her she would understand if she read Zhuan Falun.
Once, we had a meeting with foreign consultants. I arrived a bit early and only two staff members were there preparing for the presentations. I gave them each a set of Dafa pamphlets. They were very happy to receive them. When I met the husband of one of the staff members on the street a few days later, he greeted me with an understanding smile.
I tried my best to give informational materials to everyone I met. Many colleagues knew I was a practitioner. A young woman from a research institute told me during a meeting break that her father is a retired teacher and reads the news every day using the anti-censorship software. He was unable to get online for a few days, so I copied a few other software programs for her to try.
The graduate school dean’s hometown is in Gansu Province, which is a thousand miles away. He said his brother is a high school teacher and began practicing Falun Dafa to improve his health. But the persecution began on July 20, 1999, and, out of fear, he stopped practicing. Now his health was poor. The dean wanted to persuade him to start again. I gave him a copy of Zhuan Falun, audio files of the Dafa exercise music, and informational booklets. He told me later that his brother was very grateful to get those.
The CEO’s secretary told me that his aunt practiced Falun Dafa, but she passed away when the Communist Party began persecuting practitioners. He was young at the time, and developed some misconceptions about Dafa. I told him my views on some of the points that baffled him and explained the staged Tienanmen Square self-immolation, Dafa’s extraordinary healing power, and that it is practiced all over the world. I also copied other information about Falun Dafa for him to read. He thanked me.
Using Dafa’s Principle to Harmonize Relationships at Work
The relationships between the various departments in my company are complex. Each department fights for its own interests. The contractors say security does not let them onto the site easily. The facility department does not let the construction truck run on the large street in front, and forces them to take a mile-long detour, claiming that the main street is for executive visitors. The drivers sometimes forget and are fined a thousand yuan. I tried my best to negotiate peace between them.
Research, development, design, procurement, and construction are carried out in parallel. There are dozens of equipment and material suppliers, more than a dozen construction companies and, at the busiest time, more than 1,000 people on site. A problem in any link will affect the progress of the entire project. It is always very busy, but construction must be carried out in an orderly way without creating any safety issues.
Some veteran employees told me that none of the company’s recent projects had been completed on time. Yet the projects cannot be delayed. As far as the construction companies are concerned, if the project is delayed for a few months, their limited profits will be all gone. I really needed to do my best.
I follow Dafa’s standards of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and treat everyone I meet with sincerity. I don’t use my position to punish anyone, but to better serve and coordinate projects. I get more understanding and support when I align everyone’s goals. I also know it’s my responsibility to let everyone know the truth about Dafa.
A lot of construction company reps, equipment suppliers, and on-site commissioning personnel have received truth-clarification materials. The projects are delivered on schedule; high-quality products are produced, and many impossible situations became possible. The president is very pleased and rewards people on the project team.
However, corruption has permeated every corner of mainland China, and engineering is no exception. Kickbacks from suppliers and gifts from construction companies have become commonplace. In my position, I also encountered many such situations. Fortunately, I followed Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and politely declined kickbacks every time.
The equipment sales manager of a foreign company payed a return visit to see how their equipment was operating. As a thank you, she gave me an envelope with money. I didn’t accept it. Instead, I took the opportunity to tell her about the benefits of Falun Dafa, and gave her a truth-clarifying leaflet. She said that her sister believed in Buddhism, and she would go back and read the information with her.
A company in Xi’an installed some equipment for us successfully. The general manager of the company called and said that he was in our city and hoped to meet with me in the evening. I drove to his hotel after work. He came to my car, said some polite words of gratitude, then took out a thick envelope.
I said I couldn’t take it. I told him that I practiced Falun Dafa. Then I told him about the physical and mental benefits that I got from practicing, and the meaning of knowing the truth. I also gave him some brochures, which he gladly accepted. He said that he knew the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners was cruel, but he had no way to help. He said he knew we also needed money to make truth-clarification materials. So the envelope of money could be regarded as sponsorship. He left the money in the car and went back to the hotel.
I was touched and thankful for his understanding. The tens of thousands of yuan in the envelope looked heavy. Relying on wages and bonuses to maintain living expenses, plus making truth-clarifying materials, made my financial situation tight. But I felt I could not take the money. The issue was not how much the amount was; the key was not to set a precedent.
I went to the hotel and knocked on his door, set the envelope down, and told him that I thanked him for his kindness but I couldn’t accept the money and I hoped he would understand. I had an indescribable feeling in my heart when I walked out. I truly hoped that I had not gone too far. I only wished he could understand, and that he could calmly read the truth-clarification materials.
We have even stronger predestined relationships with colleagues who work with us, and we should not miss them. After returning from her honeymoon in Europe, a colleague happily told me that she saw many people practicing Falun Dafa there.
Some colleagues have asked me, “What if someone reports you for distributing materials?” Indeed, I have thought of this. But I let people know the truth to stop this persecution, as numerous practitioners have been arrested, detained, and sentenced to prison. Some were forced to stay away from home, some were divorced by their spouses, or tortured in custody and disabled, or even died. Some even had their organs forcibly removed and sold.
There are so many people in the world, and we have a predestined relationship with those around us. We must tell them about Falun Dafa and share with them the most precious and wonderful message. Everyone has a knowing side. To let them know the truth is the most important thing.
I want to thank Master Li, the founder of Falun Dafa. He cleansed my body, let me know the true meaning of life, and led me onto this path to return to my original self. Master has provided me with many opportunities to improve my character and does not give up on me. This has helped me make it through the most difficult parts of my path. I will cultivate diligently and follow Master home.
