(Minghui.org) A man in Huludao City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced on February 21, 2023, to two years for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Mr. Zhang Aimin’s family kept calling judge Zhang Liang for a copy of his verdict, but the judge refused to provide it.
Mr. Zhang and his wife Ms. Dong Yanhong were arrested at home at 5 a.m. on August 19, 2022. The police ransacked their home without a search warrant. Two other practitioners, Mr. Liu Quanwang and Ms. Cui Bing, were also arrested that same day.
The police claimed that Mr. Zhang, Mr. Liu, and Ms. Cui were reported for distributing Falun Gong materials on April 7, 2022. Although Ms. Dong didn’t distribute the materials with them, the police still arrested her when they found Falun Gong files on her computer.
Ms. Cui and Ms. Dong were held in the Huludao City Detention Center. The two men were held in the Xingcheng City Detention Center. A friend of Ms. Cui called Hua Zhengwei, the chief of Jitun Police Station, on October 11, 2022, to ask about her case. Her friend said that there was no legal basis for the police to arrest her and that they were filing complaints against the police for persecuting the practitioners. Hua was infuriated and said there was no way he would dismiss Ms. Cui’s case and that he would certainly seek to have her sentenced to prison.
To seek justice for his daughter and son-in-law, Ms. Dong’s 87-year-old father filed complaints on December 28, 2022, against Wang Xian, the president of Nanpiao District Procuratorate, as well as prosecutors Wang Dekun and Yang Danding.
The Lianshan District Court sentenced Mr. Liu to five years and Ms. Cui to two years in December 2022. Ms. Dong’s case was dismissed by the Lianshan District Procuratorate on January 4, 2023, due to insufficient evidence.
Mr. Zhang was tried in the Lianshan District Court on February 15, 2023. He was sentenced to prison six days later and fined 5,000 yuan.
