(Minghui.org) Shortly after Ms. Wang Wenjie returned after months of living away from home to avoid the threat of arrest, she was arrested on March 10, 2023 and is scheduled to appear in court on April 6 for practicing Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wang, of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, was first arrested on December 23, 2018 with Ms. Hao Liqin for talking to people about Falun Gong. Both of them were held in the Qinglong County Lockup and released on bail on January 5, 2019.

The police forced the two women to go to the Changli County Procuratorate on January 22, 2020 to sign their case documents, to be submitted to the prosecutor.

About two months later, on March 19, the police showed up at the two women’s homes and drove them to the procuratorate for an interview with the prosecutor.

The Changli County Court tried Ms. Hao on May 7, 2020, and sentenced her to three years and ten months, with a 3,000-yuan fine. To avoid serving time, she lived away from home and hid from the police. She was arrested again on October 27, 2021 and made to appear in court on November 18, 2021. It’s not clear whether the judge ordered her to serve her previous sentence or whether he gave her a new prison term.

Also on October 27, 2021, Ms. Wang was forced to live away from home to hide from the police. Tan Jun, chief of the Mutoudeng Police Station, brought a group of officers to break into her sister’s home at 6 a.m. on August 23, 2022 in an attempt to look for her. The police also threatened her sister Ms. Wang Wenping and her husband Mr. Li Xue and warned them not to continue practicing Falun Gong themselves. Before leaving, the police searched their home and took photos of their contacts on their cellphones.

As soon as Ms. Wang Wenjie returned home on March 10, 2023, she was arrested and taken back into custody at the Changli County Detention Center. She is scheduled to stand trial at the Changli County Procuratorate on April 6.
