(Minghui.org) Zhou Xing and Lai Junchen were secret police officials in the Tang Dynasty during the Wu Zhou period. Both of them enjoyed torturing their victims when they interrogated them, and many innocent people confessed to crimes they had not committed and were executed.
Someone later reported Zhou for being involved in a crime and the Empress, Wu Zetian, ordered Lai to investigate. Lai invited Zhou for a drink and asked, “I have seen some criminals who were very cunning. I tried all different kinds of torture, but they did not confess. What would you do?”
“That’s easy,” Zhou replied. “Find a large urn or jar, heat it up on a bed of charcoal, and put the criminal in it. No one could withstand that.”
Lai followed Zhou’s instructions and then called Zhou, “The Empress asked me to investigate you. Please come in.”
Horrified, Zhou confessed. On the way to his place of exile, his enemies killed him.
This is a classic example of a criminal suffering the same fate as his victim. Unfortunately, many people have not heeded this lesson, such as those who are involved in the persecution of Falun Gong, which the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) put into motion in July 1999.
Despite knowing that Falun Gong is a peaceful practice that improves mind and body, many people still go along with the communist regime to discriminate against and mistreat its practitioners. It is especially the case with officials in the judiciary and law enforcement system. Citing orders from their superiors, they detain and torture practitioners at will for their own political gains, which has led to countless tragedies.
Torture
Mustard Oil
Mr. Zhang Yong, a Falun Gong practitioner in Jilin City, Jilin Province, was arrested in 2019 for hanging up a poster with information about Falun Gong. Plainclothes officers tortured him in a secret room with 14 torture instruments in the “special toolbox,” plus hanging devices and a tiger bench.
They handcuffed Mr. Zhang to a metal chair, taped and wrapped his mouth, and then inserted two lit cigarettes into his nostrils.
One officer said, “Today I’m going to torture you to death. My superiors ordered me to do it.” He and other officials sprayed mustard oil on Mr. Zhang’s face, nose, and eyes. The pain was unspeakable.
“No One Cares About You”
On August 12, 2021, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wen Yufei was taken to Heilongjiang Provincial Women’s Prison to serve a two-year term. She refused to renounce her belief and was tortured. Inmates Li Bing and Wang Fengchun beat, abused, and pinched her. They also forced her to sit on a small stool without moving from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., causing her buttocks to fester.
Sun Li, the head of the Eighth Ward, turned a blind eye to the torture Ms. Wen suffered. Inmate Wang said to Ms. Wen, “See, did the guard pay attention to you? No one cares about you. In fact, we don’t want to do this either. It is the prison officials that made us do it.”
“It Is an Order from the Labor Camp Director”
Mr. Yu Chunhai, a Falun Gong practitioner in Yushu City, Jilin Province, was beaten and kicked, burned with cigarette butts, and deprived of sleep for 24 hours in Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp.
Once drug addict Xu Hui struck Mr. Yu dozens of times with a bedboard more than 1 meter long and 20 centimeters wide, leaving his buttocks bruised and bloody. “The guards told us to do this,” Xu said. “It is an order from the labor camp director.” Due to the torture, Mr. Yu passed away on March 10, 2007, at the age of 32.
“Party Power Is Replacing the Law to Suppress Falun Gong”
Mr. Zhang Chunqiu, a practitioner in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, was arrested in 2001 and sentenced to eight years. “Now that Party power is replacing the law to suppress Falun Gong,” one judge said to him, “we only go through the motions and follow the formalities. We don’t have a choice and you can’t blame me.”
Healthy Citizen Detained in Psychiatric Hospital for 11 Years
Ms. Guo Min worked for the Xima Township Branch of the National Taxation Bureau in Xishui County, Hubei Province. She was found to be carrying Falun Gong books at the Hangzhou Railway Station in Zhejiang Province in March 2000. Because of that, she was detained in a psychiatric hospital for 11 years and was forced to take drugs that damaged her central nervous system. She died on August 4, 2011, at the age of 38.
Over the years, Ms. Guo’s family could have tried to get her out. But because they were afraid of being implicated and they were also influenced by the regime’s propaganda demonizing Falun Gong, they refused to take her home.
24 Nerve-Damaging Pills a Day
Ms. Lu Hongfeng was the former vice-principal and director of academic affairs of a primary school in Lingwu City, Ningxia. She dedicated herself to her work and was an outstanding employee.
During the communist regime’s national conferences in March 2000, the Municipal Education Bureau suspended and dismissed Ms. Lu for signing an open letter to the National People’s Congress calling for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong.
Instead of protecting her, her husband, Qin Yuhuan, gathered a group of people to arrest her. They took her to Lingwu Psychiatric Hospital, where Ms. Lu was tied to a bed and injected with and force-fed large doses of nerve-damaging drugs.
According to one doctor in the hospital, one pill containing a certain drug imported from Germany would make a person fall into a coma for three days. Ms. Lu was given 24 of those pills a day for over 50 days.
By the time she was released, Ms. Lu had become mentally disordered and extremely weak. At home, her husband continued to force-feed her additional drugs and physically tortured her. She died six months later, on September 6, 2000. She was 37.
What Goes Around Comes Around
As awful as the persecution is as demonstrated above, while the perpetrators may get away with it for the time being, karmic retribution has caught up with many of them. It is a hard lesson.
Captain of Longlin County Domestic Security Office in Guangxi Province Died of COVID
Li Shaowen, captain of the Longlin County Domestic Security Office in Guangxi Province, died of COVID on January 4, 2023. During his tenure, he actively carried out orders from Guangxi Province and Baise City (which oversees Longlin County) to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.
When practitioners tried to tell him the facts about Falun Gong and explain that freedom of belief is guaranteed by the Constitution, Li ignored them. “If you do not give up practicing Falun Gong, you will be sorry,” he often said. “I don’t believe in retribution—that is nonsense!” He never stopped persecuting practitioners. One of them, Ms. Chen Peizhu, who has a disability, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2006.
Li later developed nose and throat cancer. It was very painful and nothing helped despite visiting larger hospitals in major cities. He was emaciated and suffered a lot. He wanted to retire but wasn’t allowed to. He recently became infected with COVID and died.
Wheelchair-Bound with Brain Tumor
Yang Lianjiang, Domestic Security Bureau chief of the Daxing District in Beijing, had persecuted Falun Gong practitioners for many years. He was directly responsible for the arrest, detention, and imprisonment of many practitioners in the Daxing District.
Many practitioners tried to tell him that Falun Gong is good and should not be persecuted, but Yang did not listen. Yang was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and cannot move the left side of his body. He is wheelchair-bound and needs two people to look after him.
Not long ago, Yang was at a meeting at the Daxing Police Department when he could not sit up in his wheelchair anymore and slipped under the table. He had to be rushed to the hospital. He did not stop persecuting Falun Gong, and his tumor became more serious.
Because of this, Yang has not dared to meet with anyone and refuses all visitors. He also told those he knows not to share any information about his health.
