(Minghui.org) It’s recently confirmed by Minghui.org that a 70-year-old Tianjin resident has been taken to the Tianjin Women’s Prison on February 10, 2023, to serve a five-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Han Shuyun, who credits Falun Gong for curing her rheumatism, deafness in one ear, and Meniere’s syndrome, was arrested at home on the evening of January 8, 2022. Her laptop, printer and Falun Gong books were confiscated. At least another ten Tianjin practitioners were also arrested on the same day.

Ms. Han was held at the Ninghe District Detention Center and denied family visits. Her incapacitated husband in his 70s was distressed over her detention and his condition worsened shortly after. Their son, who worked out of town, hired a caregiver for his father. He had once been denied a promotion at work because of his mother’s faith in Falun Gong.

After being kept in the dark of Ms. Han’s situation for over a year, her family recently received a call from Tianjin Women’s Prison and were told that Ms. Han had been transferred there to serve a five-year term. But the family still didn’t know details about her sentencing.

Ms. Han’s husband was eager to visit her in the prison, but his visitation request was denied.

Past Persecution

Since the persecution started in 1999, Ms. Han has been repeatedly targeted for her faith.

She was deceived into going to a township brainwashing center in late October 1999 and detained for six days before being transferred to another detention facility, where she was held for another twelve days. She was monitored around the clock and forced to read newspapers and watch videos that demonized Falun Gong.

Ms. Han was arrested again in May 2001 and had her home ransacked. The police forced her son to write a statement to denounce Falun Gong, threatening to take Ms. Han to a brainwashing center if he didn’t comply. The mental pressure from the harassment caused him to be depressed.

When her workplace tried to force her to attend another brainwashing session in March 2002, Ms. Han had to stay away from home with her incapacitated husband. Unable to find her, the 610 Office agents harassed her mother, brother, and his family. The mental pressure took a toll on her mother’s health and the elderly woman later passed away.

Ms. Han was arrested again on January 13, 2020. The residential committee staff members claimed that she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong and ransacked her home.

The police harassed Ms. Han many times at home or through phone calls in 2021.
