(Minghui.org) Ms. Miao Bojun, of Beijing, was transferred from a local detention center to the Tiantanghe Prison on April 20, 2023 to serve time for her faith in Falun Gong.

Judge Zhao Zhiyi of Tongzhou District Court verbally told Ms. Miao’s family that she was sentenced to 3.5 years, but he refused to provide a copy of her verdict, despite the family’s requests.

The sentencing of Ms. Miao, 54, stemmed from an arrest on May 6, 2022, after she was reported for distributing Falun Gong materials three days ago. She was taken to the police station and released on bail in the evening.

The police raided Ms. Miao’s home on June 14, 2022, confiscated over 50 Falun Gong books and a photo of Falun Gong’s founder. She was taken to the Tongzhou District Detention Center, but was denied admission due to her poor health. She was released again in the evening.

The police summoned Ms. Miao to the police station on August 4, 2022. She went there, only to be arrested and admitted to the Tongzhou District Detention Center. Her family recently found out about her sentencing. Her school-age daughter and her mother in her 80s are longing for her return.

Prior to Ms. Miao’s latest ordeal, she was previously arrested in 2009 and taken to the Beijing Women’s Forced Labor Camp in early June 2009 to serve an unknown term. As she refused to write statements to renounce Falun Gong, the guards shocked her with electric batons and allowed her to sleep only two or three hours a day. Sometimes the torture started as early as 5 a.m. and lasted until late night.

Torture re-enactment: electric shocks

Ms. Miao was arrested again in April 2020, after a resident’s home security camera recorded her distributing Falun Gong materials in the neighborhood. As she failed the physical examination, she was released on bail. The police took her back into Chaoyang District Lockup on March 30, 2021 and detained her for 14 days, saying it was so that they could close her case.
