(Minghui.org) Two Fuyang City, Anhui Province residents were sentenced in March 2023 for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong, which has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Fengyun and Ms. Mei Xinying were recorded by surveillance cameras while putting up information about Falun Gong on April 24, 2020. The police arrested them weeks later on May 19 and ransacked their homes. After a few weeks of criminal detention, they were released on bail.
Between January and March 2021, the police arrested both women again and held them at a brainwashing center. Shortly after they were released, the Yingquan District Procuratorate indicted them and moved their cases to the Yingquan District Court.
Both women were taken back into custody at the Fuyang City Women’s Detention Center on June 10, 2022. The court held a joint trial of their cases on March 3, 2023. Ms. Liu was sentenced to 3.5 years and Ms. Mei to 2.5 years.
