(Minghui.org) A former employee of a souvenir shop in Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province was twice arrested and imprisoned because she refused to renounce her belief. Ms. Xia Jiping is a practitioner of Falun Dafa, a meditation practice that’s been persecuted in China since July 1999.
After serving two prison terms for a total of seven years, Ms. Xia suffers from permanent physical and mental issues, especially from the involuntary drug administration she was given. She looked haggard and her neighbors told her that she appeared much older than her age. She is often confused and has severe memory loss. She can barely lift her legs and her knees hurt constantly. All her teeth became loose and she cannot chew properly. The police and community officials continue to harass her at home after she was released from prison in 2016.
Her parents were often terrorized by the authorities and had to worry about her safety a lot. Both of them have already passed away.

Taking Up Falun Gong
Ms. Xia, born in October 1964, suffered a throat disease at a young age. She could not make sounds and had a hard time swallowing. She coughed all year round and could not breathe smoothly. Her condition did not improve despite extensive treatments. Soon after she began to practice Falun Dafa at the end of 1999, she could swallow food easily and had energy. As she continued to practice, her health improved significantly and so did her temperament.
Torture During First Imprisonment: Force Feeding, Sleep Deprivation, and Hung-up
Ms. Xia was arrested and had her home ransacked on September 26, 2004. In Fuzhou City Detention Center, she was forced to do intensive labor for over 10 hours a day without pay. One time the guards pulled her hair back, held her hands and legs down, pried her teeth open, and poured into her mouth concentrated salt water and an unknown substance.
Ms. Xia was sentenced to three years and two months on April 25, 2005, and transferred to Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison. The guards often deprived her of sleep, forced her to watch videos that defamed Falun Dafa, and handcuffed her in painful positions to torture her. One time they cuffed her hands behind her back and hung her up by the wrists. Her feet were off the ground and her arms were pulled up backward, with her head pointing down. The pain in her shoulders and wrists was excruciating.
Torture During Second Imprisonment: Sprayed with Unknown Drugs and Shackled
Ms. Xia’s second arrest took place on August 9, 2012. The detention center guards put on her shackles that weighed 20 kg (44 lbs) and were meant to be used only on death-row prisoners. She was sentenced to four years on April 3, 2013, and transferred to Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison.
In the first two weeks in the prison, guards frequently made her march in military style. They also tied her to a metal chair with bandages and made her stay in a fixed position for a long time, or handcuffed her in the back and attached her handcuffs to a window frame to hang her up. Sometimes they bashed her head and knees with bottles.
Despite the torture, Ms. Xia remained a steadfast practitioner and refused to renounce her faith. Guards Wang Ning and Huang Shanyu instigated an inmate to spray her nostrils and mouth with an unidentified liquid drug in October 2015. She became non-responsive right after and lost most of her memory and ability to think. After that her hair quickly turned gray, her teeth became loose, and she suffered urinary incontinence and constipation.
Continues to Suffer Police Harassment
Only two weeks after Ms. Xia was released on August 9, 2016, the police began to harass her and threatened her that she wasn’t allowed to talk to people about Falun Dafa and the persecution.
Ms. Xia went to Dongguan City in Guangdong Province in 2020 to take care of her grandson. During her stay there, officers from Fuzhou City Domestic Security Office worked with their counterparts at Gonglian District Police Station of Dongguan City to harass her multiple times.
The authorities continued to harass Ms. Xia in 2021. They photographed her and recorded their conversations when they went to her place. The local authorities also harassed and terrorized her family members, including her elderly mother who was in her 80s and her younger brother. Her mother passed away not long after.
