(Minghui.org) I recently listened to “The Cultivation Story of Buddha Milarepa” on Minghui Radio and I was very touched.
Although Milarepa studied under his master for a long time, he was not anointed, or given the teachings. Instead, his master told Milarepa to build a house, and then demolish it. Milarepa was repeatedly told to build the house, and then demolish it. His master also often scolded and beat him. Although Milarepa suffered tremendously and put in so much effort, he still did not know if he would ever receive any teachings from his master. He sometimes felt so downhearted that he contemplated suicide.
Despite all these tribulations, Milarepa never complained or had negative thoughts about his master. He attributed all his experiences to the enormous karma he had, thinking that he was too sinful to receive teachings. Even when his master asked him to do bad deeds to accumulate black karma, Milarepa felt it was due to his own problems.
As I was listening to the program, I suddenly thought: “What if Master treated me like this? Would I have any negative feelings? Would I complain or resent him?”
Looking back on my cultivation journey, I know I am very fortunate because our Master taught us the truth of the universe, treated us with boundless compassion, and always helps us along the way. But I often took all this for granted and did not fully cherish these opportunities or do my best to cultivate. Compared to Milarepa, am I a good disciple?
Becoming a Falun Dafa disciple is the greatest honor and I should always strive to do better. This is what Master expects and what sentient beings have been waiting for.
This is my personal understanding. Please point out anything inappropriate.
