(Minghui.org) I’m in my 70s and I started practicing Falun Dafa in 1998, with my husband. My husband always had a very bad temper and often took out his anger on me. Many of our family members were afraid of him. He struggled with several health conditions and later developed cancer. We spent a lot of money trying to find treatment for him, but to no avail. However, after he began to practice Dafa, not only did he recover from his illnesses, but he also became kind and gentle. He no longer lost his temper with me.
A year after we started practicing, the persecution started. My husband went to Beijing to appeal, but he was arrested and detained.
We had a persimmon farm. Although we didn’t spend much time managing it that year, as we were also building a new house, our persimmons turned out to be the best in the village. I knew Master was taking care of us. When harvest time came, my husband was still detained, so our family members helped us harvest and sell the persimmons. We had a decent income thanks to their help.
After my husband was released, the local police and village officials kept coming to harass us. Then in October 2000, both of us were arrested and taken to a brainwashing center. Shortly after we were released, my husband was arrested again and sentenced to prison.
I was given a forced labor camp term in March 2001. Two months later, my husband was tortured to death. Back then, our family’s savings had been almost completely extorted by the village officials, leaving nothing for our 21-year-old son, Yong. He even didn’t have enough money to buy food.
My sister and brothers helped us by finding people to keep working on our house, and they provided food for Yong. Sometimes the government officials still came to harass Yong, but both he and my relatives, if they happened to be at our home, would condemn the officials.
Despite the difficulties Yong was facing, he stayed kind and pure. He knew deeply that Falun Dafa is good and how Dafa had helped his father overcome his health problems and change his bad temper. When the 610 Office agents asked Yong to work with them to prevent my practicing Dafa after I was released, he refused.
Yong worked several shifts at work to earn enough money to finish our house. No matter how hard it was, he didn’t complain, nor did he argue with people when he was mistreated.
When I was released from labor camp and returned home in October 2001, the house was already finished. Yong continued to work hard and support me in practicing Dafa.
In 2004, at the age of 25, Yong got married. His wife is from the same village and is a very gentle and understanding person. She soon gave birth to a son and then a daughter. She later found a job at a clothing factory and then a paper production factory, where she eventually became a vice president. Just like Yong, she also supports me in practicing Dafa and treats me very well.
Yong worked as a truck driver. After they had some savings, he bought his own truck and started up his own transportation business. They later bought a house in the city and moved there.
Looking back at what we’ve been through over the years, my heart is full of gratitude. My son has always been kind and honest, since he was a child. Even though he doesn’t practice Dafa, he follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He is cheerful and tries his best to help others, without ever complaining about his own difficulties.
After seeing our family’s improved situation, many villagers who had avoided us in the past—due to the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda about Falun Dafa—now understood and supported us. We now have a good relationship with them and some even expressed their admiration for our family.
