(Minghui.org) I was detained once for practicing Falun Dafa. During that time, I was given a chance to meet so many people who committed wrongdoings. They were jailed due to their ignorance of how to be a good person. I felt sorry for them. Under Master’s (Falun Dafa’s founder) compassionate arrangement, I was appointed to be a lecturer to educate inmates. I used the principles I had learned from cultivating in Dafa and the knowledge of traditional culture to nourish their hearts bit by bit. Thus, many people understood that Falun Dafa is good and deeply regretted the crimes they committed.
Like many people, I used to think that people who were imprisoned, except for Dafa disciples, were extremely bad. However, after getting in touch with them, I discovered that many people actually had good intentions, and there were even some people who were very kind at heart. However, due to the brainwashing of atheism, many people do not believe in karmic retribution and break the law for a small profit.
One day in the detention center, a woman knelt down and exclaimed, “Bodhisattva Guanyin, please save me. Bodhisattva Guanyin, please deliver me from suffering and distress.” I was almost in tears and suddenly felt that people were really pitiful. They created karma out of ignorance and were so helpless when faced with the consequences. I very much wanted to teach them the principles that Master taught me.
The detention center I was jailed in had books and allowed inmates to learn poetry, songs, and the like. I was selected to be their lecturer because I was kind in words and deeds. I also consoled inmates who were depressed or at risk of committing suicide.
I was scheduled to teach 2-3 classes per week. In order to clarify the truth better, I carefully prepared the lessons including opening remarks, short stories interspersed in the middle, and key points to clarify. After a lecture, I would privately ask for feedback and improve in the following classes.
At first, I talked about the novel The Romance of the Three Kingdoms and poetry, and then I focused on the Confucian book Di Zi Gui because it contains many principles for being a good person. From there, I could add the principles I learned from the Fa. I would give them a few short stories to make the principles vivid and interesting. Many stories came from Minghui Radio that I had heard of long before, but I could not remember the details of the stories. I knew Master was helping me.
Everyone paid close attention in the class and gave warm applause when class finished.
Speaking of filial piety, it has been the most important thing since ancient times for everyone from commoners to the emperor. Ancient laws dictated that those who were unfilial could be killed with a stick. In the past, when there was no palace election, filial piety and integrity were promoted, and filial sons could serve as officials. After giving them a few stories of being filial in history, I explained my understanding to them.
I said that many people’s filial piety is to give money to their parents. Confucius talked about shaming people, and it is extremely unfilial to shame to your parents. Nowadays, people not only give their parents a hard time but also look down on their parents and say hurtful things, thinking that they are more knowledgeable than their parents.
How can one be filial? Give up some of the time you spend with friends to eat and chat with your parents; divert time playing mahjong (a Chinese gambling game) to have a meal with your parents, get a gift for your parents, and accompany your parents to visit their hometown. Put down your smartphone, chat with your parents, and listen to their stories of the past. Don’t let your parents feel lonely.
I told them how I often went shopping with my mother, cooked for her, went to my hometown to visit her, and did farm work with her after I started practicing Falun Gong.
Once my mother came to stay at my house for a while. I stewed a pot of pork. I became sleepy and my mother said she would look after the pot for me, so I went to bed with peace of mind. However, in the middle of the night, I suddenly smelled something burning. I got up and saw that my mother was asleep, and all the pork in the pot was burned.
After hearing me getting up, my mother also got up and blamed herself for falling asleep. I felt uneasy when I saw my mother blaming herself. My mother at that time behaved like a younger me who made a mistake. I comforted my mother and said, “It’s okay, there are still some left to eat.” I picked out some that were not too burned and ate them.
I told them that if I didn’t practice, I would’ve blamed my mother. But Master, the founder of Falun Dafa, taught me to be considerate, not to mention that my mother just made an honest mistake. If I didn’t practice Dafa, I wouldn’t be able to do that.
In one class, I talked about the relationship between husband and wife and lust. First, the fate of becoming husband and wife. If someone comes to repay a favor, then he or she will treat you very well. If someone comes to repay a mistreatment, then he or she may beat or scold you. Nowadays, people get divorced when they are unhappy. But the cause and effect has not been resolved, so it will continue. Therefore, ancient people’s view of marriage was to last a lifetime, and it was very rare that men divorced their wives because people at that time were restrained by morality.
Second, lust. I told a few short stories, including the story of how Di Renjie rejected a seduction and became the number one scholar in a palace exam. Then there was the story of how a scholar candidate learned in his dream that he was stripped of his number one ranking due to his greed for lust. I warned them that sexual desire is the first of all evils. Regardless of whether men or women, indulgence in lust will destroy life and wealth.
Third, how do fellow Falun Dafa practitioners deal with cheating husbands and domestic violence? I told them how my fellow practitioners were kind to their in-laws and spouses. No matter whether they were men or women, they would be loyal to each other and treat each other with kindness. This is a principle of kindness in cultivation.
I would tell one or two short stories to inspire them to believe in cause and effect and break away from atheism in almost every class. After class, they would also tell each other some short stories about cause and effect. Gradually, most people came to believe that good will be rewarded and evil meets retribution. I also told them that these principles were taught in Falun Dafa so they gradually formed a positive understanding of Falun Dafa.
After giving lectures for several months, I was moved to another detention center to continue giving lectures. After I finished teaching, I was released.
Many people gave me moving feedback. I believe most of them understood that Falun Dafa is good and Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.
I also clarified the truth to them in private. Many people made the right choice and quit the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. Some people who knew the truth shouted in the prison cell: “Falun Dafa is good!” And a group of people would follow suit. I saw how they had changed, and I was very touched. I thanked Master for giving me such opportunities and abilities.
I also clarified the truth to the prison guards. Whenever possible, I would make an appointment with the prison guards and their leaders. After repeatedly clarifying the truth, the prison guards occasionally listened to my lectures. The prison guards gradually accepted us as Falun Dafa practitioners and provided assistance privately.
I am extremely grateful to Master for teaching me cultivation and purifying my soul.
