(Minghui.org) A 51-year-old Jilin City, Jilin Province, resident stood trial on January 12, 2024, for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The prosecutor recommended a 1.5-year sentence at the end of the hearing, and the judge said that he would have to submit the recommendation to the higher-ups for approval.
Ms. Wang Yuxia was seized by Chen Liheng, the chief of Tuchengzi Police Station, and his four subordinates on the evening of September 10, 2022. In addition to Ms. Wang, at least two more practitioners, Mr. Li Gui and Ms. Sun (first name unknown), were arrested around the same time. All of them had their homes ransacked and their Falun Gong books, portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, and cellphones were confiscated.
The police handcuffed Ms. Wang’s hands behind her back to the metal interrogation chair at the police station. She was released on bail at around 3 a.m. after the police forced her family to pay a 2,000-yuan bail bond.
The Longtan District Procuratorate deceived Ms. Wang into reporting to them on October 26, 2022, with the excuse being to close her case. She went there, only to be deposed. She was allowed to go home afterwards.
The police and local government officials harassed Ms. Wang on November 11, 2022 and ordered her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to comply. The police forced her husband to sign it on her behalf. Later in the day, the police took Ms. Wang for a physical examination and released her.
Ms. Wang’s case was later forwarded to the Changyi District Procuratorate. She was again deceived into going there to sign her case file. Her case was further forwarded to the Jilin City Procuratorate, which in turn indicted her and submitted her case to the Jilin City Court.
When Ms. Wang appeared in court on January 12, 2024, the prosecutor suggested sentencing her to 1.5 years with a fine. The judge concurred but said he had to submit the recommendation to the higher-ups for approval before announcing it.
Before Ms. Wang took up Falun Gong, she frequently fought with her husband and his parents and siblings. Practicing Falun Gong helped her improve her relationship with her family and also restored her health.
Because she filed a criminal complaint in 2015 against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese communist regime who ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Wang was harassed by four officers from the Jinzhuxiang Police Station in July 2015 and ordered to sign a statement renouncing Falun Gong.
Ms. Wang was arrested again on August 15, 2017 by officers of the Jinzhuxiang Police Station. Her home was ransacked.
