(Minghui.org) Ms. Geng Lijuan, 61, from Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on October 28, 2024, after being reported for talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Geng was given criminal detention and is currently held at the Chengnan Detention Center. Other details about her case aren’t clear.
This is not the first time that Ms. Geng has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong, which she took up in 1997 and credits with curing her insomnia, rheumatism, rhinitis, eczema, and breast hyperplasia.
She was first arrested on September 30, 2001 and held at the Fuxin City Detention Center for more than twenty days. She was also fined 10,000 yuan.
Ms. Geng went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on January 28, 2002 and was arrested. She was held at the Huairou District Detention Center in Beijing for more than ten days before being taken back to Liaoning Province. After more than 40 days in the Fuxin City Detention Center, she was given three years of forced labor and sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The guards there subjected her to all kinds of abuse, including making her squat or stand for hours, depriving her of sleep, denying her restroom use, and not letting her drink water.
While visiting a local practitioner on March 21, 2014, Ms. Geng was arrested and taken to the Fuxin City Detention Center. Two weeks later, she was sentenced to three years in prison. Not long after, her employer laid her off and her husband divorced her.
After another arrest on February 22, 2018, Ms. Geng was tried on May 21 and sentenced to one year in prison by the Xihe District Court in August 2018.
